With all the concerns about Rice and Bass that have come out recently, the personal issues between Biden-Kamala, and Demings' history with police, it's starting to be possible that all the top black women in the running might have more negatives than positives. I'm starting to wonder if he'll go back to pre-BLM options like Whitmer or Duckworth, and maybe announce a black woman as his next Supreme Court nominee or something along those lines. Whitmer was my pre-BLM pick so I might be biased, but I still think Whitmer is a star-power pick: not much in her record to attack, younger, very personable and relatable, key state/region, progressive but has a long history of working with the other side. Biden seems to think highly of her. And she has credibility to talk Covid, with her state being one of the biggest success stories. Her big negative is the crazies who went after her on Trump's pushing (and "that woman from Michigan"), but I don't think that armed protests against her doing what governors across the nation did hurts her at all - and maybe help her with the left. The other negative is whether a governor can credibly leave in middle of a pandemic, but Michigan seems to largely have this under control relative to other states so it might be possible now whereas a month or two ago, it wasn't an option.

The way Biden is looking lately, unless he's playing possum, his VP pick is going to be everything. He doesn't want to screw this up like McCain when he picked that crazy Eskimo woman.

I think Harris brings literally nothing to the table. She checks off all the demographics (woman, minority, younger), but that's it.

Her campaign was a total trainwreck - both in polling and behind the scenes chaos.
Her highlight and only time she resonated with people was when she called Biden a racist in a debate.
She had very little appeal with any demographic - not youth, not progressives, not minorities, etc.
She doesn't bring any regional value.
She's not someone Biden particularly trusts or would rely on for advice (one of his criterias)
She's not someone ideologically aligned with Biden (mainly because she's been all over the place on ideology)
She openly wants the spotlight, meaning she's going to be running for President for Day #1, and it's unclear what happens if his and her interests collide.
Jill Biden has significant problems with her, so if he wants to re-create the Obama/Biden style, there will be friction there.

Her one possible strength is on the debate stage - though even that, that was based on zinger. And she will have exactly one debate with Pence that very few people watch.

The other one thing you could argue is that she does limited harm - she probably won't help the ticket in any way, but she's vetted and has been on the national stage and probably doesn't hurt it much. That's a pretty low bar, though, given what he has said he wants in a VP.

McCain needed a miracle in his election - that's why he went for a hail mary. Biden just needs to maintain a status quo in this race.

not sure about this. we've seen several "anyone but Harris" comments here. I'm sure there must be others who feel the same way

That's why I think Rice might be in the lead. Even with all of the Benghazi and other baggage Biden might want someone who he feels can do the job and he feels personally comfortable with that's Rice.

I agree - of the Harris/Rice/Demings/Bass quartet, I think Rice would be the easy choice and is the favorite. However, there's also a lot of weird stuff with her finances and her private sector work between Clinton and Obama. Worked for some African governments and hasn't disclosed much - but she had tied to Rwanda and other less-than-savory governments. She's also uber-rich and has tens of millions in investments, with a lot of it in things not popular with Democrats (oil pipelines, etc) - that won't sit well with progressives. Nothing disqualifying or earth-shattering, but between all that and Benghazi, it could be a big distraction that Trump can exploit.

While you call Biden J"Crow Joe", Donald Trump literally had to settle a law suit for racial housing discrimination and in 2000 in his other presidential run proposed criminal justice legislation that was far harsher than anything in 1994. Biden does share some negative traits with Trump. It's just Trump is so cartoonishly worse.

The fact that you are actually impressed by that video of Trump when all he does is speak empty platitudes is hilarious.

Do you want me to post the video where he says the majority of Mexicans are rapists and murderers?

"Why We’re Demanding No Cops for Veep: If Joe Biden wants to signal his commitment to the message of the Black Lives Matter movement, he shouldn’t pick a former police officer or prosecutor."

this would certainly limit Biden's choices:
