Schumer must be seeing polling that keeping everyone locked down and miserable until the election is over is blowing back on Dems
Moms favor reopening by around 80% (for) to 20% (against). This issue is a political killer for Dems unless they adjust.
School’s about to start, but Texas isn’t tracking coronavirus in the classroom https://www.dallasnews.com/news/edu...s-isnt-tracking-coronavirus-in-the-classroom/
We owe it to our children to provide them education. Virtual learning is of little value for the younger ages. Kids can mask and distance.
What about the 55,000 teachers in Texas over the age of 55? What about the parents and grandparents and other adults in schools at risk? And no, not all kids can mask and distance. This is going to have tragic results. Schools will end up closing back down, teachers and staff, as well as children will end up infected, and the chances of that not happening are slim to none.
Their positivity rate is 1% of those tested. Ours is 16.5%. Even at 1% people will get sick, so it's stupid, I agree. 16.5% in just irresponsible and dangerous. Add in less ICU beds in Texas, and basically no contract tracing, and schools not having to provide Covid-19 case data.
You still using 150,000 deaths as a political volleyball. I don't give a F about "Dems" "libs" or Trumptards. 150,000 people dead, clown. Yes you. Clown.
The odds are, 99% of those teachers will be just fine. Death rates have plummeted as treatments have improved, and a vaccine and therapeutics are coming soon. The vulnerable (tiny minority of people) should stay at home. That small group of vulnerables should not dictate how the vast majority of students and teachers should behave. We should not make public policy to accommodate the lowest common denominator.
On the contrary, it will work beautifully, as the experts have advised. The winning formula is Masks, social distance, and hand hygiene PLUS keeping the tiny group of vulnerables protected at home (#SafeAtHome). Do the right thing, open up the schools for learning. It's safe, and with the virus declining fast, it's time.
"Yes, 1% of 55,000 is merely 550 people. Firstly, who cares? Secondly, 550 teachers will only cause about 10,000 people to quarantine. As I said, who cares. Thirdly, I personally will act as a substitute teacher and I have 549 friends as well. So their classes will roll right along. The Schools will not be affected. Excuse me, I'm sniffing my own fart again."
Deaths have plummeted in your warped view? Texas had a total of 3,798 deaths all the way up until July 18th. We've added 4,533 new deaths since then. No, all kids will simply not wear masks, especially some with moderate to severe disabilities, behavior problems, etc.. Kids will be taking them on and off and touching things they are told not to touch. It happens every day in a classroom. Not all kids are capable of listening, following directions, or sitting still. Asymptomatic carriers will be among the schools, and even those sick will be a nurse's guessing game as to cold, flu, or Covid-19 unless every kid feeling sick is given a test right then and sent home until they get back results.

Or lose their jobs and pay if they can't suck it up buttercup and are afraid of the risk, even if they have less than 5 years to retire.
