Looks like gaetz is trying to out-trump trump... Matt Gaetz appears to run afoul of House ethics rules The Florida Republican spent thousands of dollars on a speechwriting consultant, and the construction of a private studio. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/22/gaetz-florida-house-ethics-rules-377098
It takes a real warrior mentality to come to work after a hangover like that...just look at the photo.
So...the people voted and said felons could vote...and then Florida said that they had to pay fines and fees...now they are paying their fines and fees, but Florida is unhappy because they are paying their fines and fees to be able to vote. This should not be happening. https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/p...0200923-w4tb2hoypbec5osrx6uocpgemi-story.html
It's dumb statements like this that involve no ounce of pragamtism. Think through your desire. These are already mostly poor people. How are you going to shake them? And this will only result in more recidivism.
You can look at that way and that's fine. I think they were given a penalty and should fulfill their obligations aka pay their debt to society. I appreciate your viewpoint sir.
Yes that's what a prison sentence is. The judge at your sentencing tells you what you deserve and you carry out the sentence. You are a stupid person.
What would be cool is if there was a gofundme path (logistics aside). I have zero issues with people donating to help someone in this case. I think of it as no different than helping someone with medical bills because they don't have health insurance, free legal services to the poor, etc. We shouldn't be a vindictive society. The purpose of prison isn't just punishment/prevention - it should be reform/minimizing recidivism. We're failing at the latter given the imprisonment rate in this country is higher than any other country. No surprise given our drug policy of course.
What do you think of things like GoFundMe campaigns that have been used to pay off fines and for legal defense?
I guess it is ok and the felons are fortunate that someone will pay their penalties so that they can vote. Victims deserve their restitution but rewarding criminals by paying their court ordered restitution is still hard to wrap my head around but it's not the end of the world.
I'm all for being vindictive with white collar crime. You steal 20 million, throw hundreds of innocent people into bankruptcy, you deserve to eat **** and get bunked with bubba for one month. If that don't make them squeal and plea down by giving up even bigger fish, then maybe the "current prison system" is too weak.
