I was wondering about this because the first, smaller explosion would have ensured some cell phone movies of the bigger one, but I hope that's not the case. I'm still hoping (already quite grim) that it's an ammonium nitrate kind of dock mishap.
Really similar to the West, Texas explosion near Waco -- fire breaks out for a somewhat long time then the ANFO goes off -- I believe that was the situation with the recent massive explosion in China.
That stuff is also like a mild chemical weapon. Nothing you want to be breathing or getting in your eyes. Lots of people will have health problems even if they avoided injury from the blast.
One of the videos I saw was a clip of a live stream from the building next door. The person is most assuredly dead.
In one of the close up videos, there are obviously fireworks/firecrackers going off. I could see how it could be a small accident that set off a larger one (as most industrial accidents actually are).
This has happened many times (Texas City?, West?) Looked like there was a fire going and then the **** went off for real.
The cloud that came up looked like a chemical explosion , immediate exothermic reaction so the ammonium nitrate stuff is prolly right
This is why strict environmental and public health regulations are extremely important. Can't be loosey-goosey with a whoopsie on **** like this.
Could bodies disintegrate being that close to the blast? Man really is too capable of destructive things and then too lazy and ignorant to be responsible with it.
