Nice work! I’m glad you pointed out that they defended well out of the gate, that’s what it seemed like to me. But they were such **** for the middle portion, I don’t know what to make of it. Facing an elite offense like that gives them some nice film to study, at the very least.

Looking forward to your work throughout the seeding games and playoffs.

Let’s just be lucky they trusted the ball in the hands of Luca over Porzingus down the stretch at the end of the game. And that we didn’t see any Boban in the second half...

Rockets missed the BBIQ of EGo on defense.

Rivers missed a lot of 3's too but he is not nearly the switch defender that EGo is.

The weak links on defense for starting 5 was, Russ and House. Russ refocused on D in 4th and especially OT. To lesser extent, so did House.

To me I kept trying to tell people. Our offense powers our defend....meaning when I watch them I tend to see they start panicking on defense when there offense starts missing shots. It looks it deflates them on defense.

Harden had 3 steals and 3 blocks, on top of dropping 49 pts at 70% efficiency.

Also held Porzingas to 1-9 shooting.

Just another night for the Beard.

    great analysis!

the gist i get is that the Rockets gave a bit too much focus to Luka and lost defensive composure many times. looks like Luka is quickly becoming an un-guard-able player on the offensive end. Roco is probably one the best defenders we can throw at anyone, still had problems staying in front of Luka.

a nimble 3nD SF that can guard 1-3 (AKA Ariza) would be such an asset to have right now. we have so many on the current roster who model themselves this way but they just don't have the same lateral quickness.

the collapsing defense reminds me a lot of what GSW did which against us. if it works, is a great asset to have against a ball-dominant superstar (as it served GSW vs Harden). but the team today is just not on the same level defensively.

Porzingis was awesome in this game, scoring an efficient 39 pts, collecting 16 boards... this part scares me, but maybe this is the one Yao to Roco's Shaq? Roco's ability to be decent to good vs LAL's lengthy lineup leaves some room for hope.

    Yes, strange game stat wise:

    3’s
I always preach that the 3-pt shooting Rockets team should strive to hit 18+ three’s in a game; because you rarely
hear of teams losing after hitting 18 or more three’s in a game. Mavs hit 21 three’s and lost (21-49, 42.9%) to Rockets
    19 three’s (19-48, 39.6%).

    Rebounds
Mavs 55 total rebounds to Houston’s 43. Being out rebounded doesn’t always equate to Rockets losses.

    Assist‘s
Mavs 30 to 26 by the Rockets.

    Fortunately the Rockets won:

    Steals
Rockets 12 to 7 by the Mavs

    Blocks
Rockets 10 to 4 by the Mavs

    TOV’s
Rockets 9 to 20 by the Mavs

So what constitutes defense to some Clutchfans. Defensive rebounds and open 3’s is not all the defense of a team.
Clutchfans need to understand Blocks, Steals, TOV’s and deflections also make up defense.

    I’m not saying you @D-rock

    Exactly!!!

Rockets defense is powered by creating possessions off of turnovers.

This is why it was so important to add more lengthy athletic disruptors, linebackers and/or volleyball players, to the team.

Need to see Luc, Demarre and Bruno (when he gets his ankle right).

Would like to see Tyson too sometimes, even 5 minutes.

apparently Thabo, Bruno, DeMarre, Jeff Green are all UFAs after the season?

i'd guess we keep 2-3 of those guys, but we're spread thin.

What went wrong was they are simply taller and more skilled. Porzingis is a nightmare matchup for us. Luckily we won’t meet the Mavs in the playoffs.
