I heard on the radio earlier tonight that the Phillies situation is likely to get worse. The coach that tested positive was around a number of players yesterday.
Phillies, Blue Jays, Marlins, Nationals, Cardinals, and Brewers are not playing today because of COVID-19. MLB postponements this week: Phillies: 7 games Marlins: 7 games *Yankees: 4 games *Orioles: 4 games Blue Jays: 3 games Nationals: 3 games Cardinals: 1 game Brewers: 1 game (*Yankees and Orioles remained in action by playing two games vs. each other.)
My god this is ridiculous. Just shut it down then. One player positive is now shutting down games. Hilariously stupid. Sh*t or get off the pot. At this point I hope it does stop just so the media and these other sh*t-nagging fans can suck a big fat nothing burger for the rest of the year. The players that opted out look pretty wise right about now.
The first game I watched as I'm sure most of us you could see IMMEDIATELY that they were not taking the SDing serioulsy. Some masks, no masks etc etc. No leadership. Manfred deserves this.
If the Cardinals are testing positive today, they probably took the tests two days ago. They were playing the Twins at the time. Better start testing Twins players too.
And since they were the visiting team, shouldn't the Indians be worried about occupying the same clubhouse tonight when they play the Twins?? So, thus far: Marlins infected, causes Phillies to be shut down, causes Yankees to be postponed, causes Blue Jays to be postponed, raises concerns about Nationals playing future games against them. Seems like one infected team leads to impacting at least 4 others. Don't have to do much advanced math amongst 30 teams to figure out what the "magic number" of infected teams would need to be to basically eliminated the chance of a season.
Shut it down, bring it back in September, play some spring training games and then have a 30 team tournament (Astros and Nats get a bye for being in last year's World Series). Every round is best of seven, match-ups are based on last year's records. Move all the games to LA/SD...3 stadiums in close range of each other and the weather will be good. Put everybody in the pod like the NBA did and play games all day with no fans. Winner takes all.
If they shut it down now, they're not coming back in September. Cool idea...wish they would have done that from the beginning. But if they shut it down and teams "go home,' they're not coming back in 30 days or so.
So, really stupid idea....since there aren't any fans, why not have Blue Jays play their Yankee games now?
Hopefully Manfred loses his job (hoping) All the travel is stupid. The lack of management in the dugouts is a problem, a huge problem. The whole set up reeks of "we really have no plan but we need to make some money"
COVID testing results from last week, per MLB: Number of samples: 11,895. -29 new positives, or 0.2% -20 positives were players and 9 were staff members. -21 of 29 positives were from one club; other 29 Clubs had 8 positives (2 MLB players, 1 Alternate Site player, 5 staff).
Shoulda done a bubble in Florida/Arizona. This isn't looking like its going to end well. Whatever.. I'm not that emotionally invested in this season. It feels surreal.
Trying to create a season without a bubble was bound to fail. Enjoy these last few games while we can...I don’t think it’ll go much longer. The playoffs are supposed to start in less than 2 months. We’re not getting there at this rate. Manfred needs to be fired for a bevy of reasons, but his departure isn’t fixing this league. It’s sad how poorly managed the MLB is. From its’ flaws in morality and accountability to blacking out fans during a pandemic while trying to grow the league...it’s almost comedic. Almost.
