It's hard to cheer for someone dying, even if you think the net benefit to humanity is positive, when you desire redemption for them above all else.

Call me sentimental, but the feeling of regret for Cain and sympathy for his family's pain just doesn't make me wanna dance.

That seems likely. Had he listened to the experts instead of being a doubter, he wouldn't have gone places where folks weren't wearing their masks and stayed inside, he'd likely be alive.

Amazing that after being saved by the medical community and the experts, he chose to ignore them and it likely cost him his life.

No not everyone who gets it is stupid, but they were most likely infected by someone who was stupid.

But it's the willful ignorance that is appalling and offensive. And the GOP has promoted willful ignorance since February after the facts became known. You don't need to see another montage of GOP officials touting wrong information do you? Because there are a lot of them out there. And, I would be willing to see a montage of Democrats being equally wrong if you can find one.

Hell no it shouldn't make anyone want to dance. At the same time, we're living in a reality in which it's important to point out that the rhetoric and actions he supported lead to his own death, which should be a lesson to others on the importance of treating this pandemic and the scientific consensus with respect.

It's terribly irresponsible to support large indoor gathers, to downplay the virus, to downplay masks. These actions are fueling the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, and unfortunately, Cain's name will join that group.

Basic math and science aren't up to debate for politics, people need to understand this.

Its out there and was costly. Cuomo with the nursing homes, pelosi with the parades, de blasio with eating out recommendations. Dark time for our country. No one is blameless.

THE PROBLEM, and why it's political, was the choice of the GOP to stand lock-step behind anything the President says. They did not apply any of their own critical thinking or even any acknowledgement of the experts in the field, even to the point of campaigning against them. It show the weakness of demagoguery and autocracy where you don't get the benefit of honest debate.

Oh for ****s sake, you can't be that brainwashed

Every day for 120 days on your own TV you saw GOP operatives denying the obvious condition; failing to organize the required effort to the point of pitting States against each other in bidding wars, thinking it was 'clever' to blame China like it makes any damn difference.

We elect our officials, or should, to promote the public safety and welfare. This sociopath President and his sycophants did exactly the opposite of this, in the name of retaining power for themselves, self-interest above public interest. And they should be thrown out if not prosecuted.

It's hard to put Democrats' missteps on this into the same bucket as Republicans' blatant obstruction and sabotage.

Making a mistake due to lack of information is one thing, hell, even making a mistake purposefully out of self-preservation I count as less egregious.

But this is by and large not what Republican mistakes vis-a-vis COVID19 look like. They're all unforced errors.

It's not the same animal by a long shot.

Not an exact parallel, but this is kind of like hearing someone dying as a result of DUI. It is still sad, but the person dying was being irresponsible-- a relatively small % of people who go to large indoor events without mask die, just like the chance for actually dying while DUI is likely fairly small, but these risks are well-known and avoidable. Meanwhile, doing what you do not only endangers yourself, but everyone else you come into direct and indirect contact with.

So, condolences to the family, but I hope that people also learn from this example.

It's more than just unforced errors even. It is a campaign with the intention of making those errors and trying to convince others that the errors they make are a good thing.

Cuomo initially shot an airball, but he learned from his mistakes, got his **** together, and New York now has COVID-19 under control. The Republican governors in question started out by shooting blanks and have continued to shoot blanks during the entire crisis. Very few of them have learned a damn thing from March until now. Abbott would be the exception because he actually had the guts to scale back Texas’ reopening and mandate wearing masks in public places once cases and hospitalizations started skyrocketing across the state, but he still should be doing more.

Will Obama, Bush, or Clinton be speaking at Mr. Cain's funeral?

So far in this crisis, woman leaders don’t seem to have the capacity to shot blanks. Need more woman as leaders.

Hmmm someone else downplaying this, aka spreading misinformation that could in fact harm people listening passing away from the same thing he was downplaying. Stop playing the ducking victim in every thread you’re in

I see people on social media ask if this will get rw-nuts to wear masks or stop spreading the "plandemic" hoax bullshit. 150,000+ deaths later. Maybe this Republican celebrity's death will be that ever elusive turning point? This is how I imagine those lost folks responding:
