More so the fact that both actually grew up here and apparently hated it.

Ill always say , houston is the best city in the US . The weather might suck , the commute might be hell , but the people are overwhelmingly chill ( and not in an austin way )

If you grew up in houston you grew up in diversity . If you've been living in houston you've likely worked with your community to gt through adversity already ( floods ) . H- town knows how to hold it down .

    Bellaire high school ( where i went ) was like 35% white, 20 % black , 20% hispanic , and 25 % asian .

Guns and heat are plausible explanations, but i think we are just cooler than everywhere else.

I know it was on all the ConocoPhillips trade confirms at my first job after undergrad, and the only place near Westheimer, them, BP Helios Plaza, Tan's Hunan, Dunvale Bollywood AMC and three dry cleaners with 2 BR condos for less than $70k in the 2010s.

Could be the same reason Los Angeles is? Or maybe the reason Toledo Ohio is? Or maybe Austin, or Maybe Raleigh, or...

Houston frequently tops the list of Fattest US Cities.

Maybe a little Hunger Games might not be a bad thing. ;)

People in Houston actually care about their neighbors and community
Is it because of the damn no zoning? Maybe
Is it the most scenic place ? Oh hell no
Do we have lots of crime ?
    are people fat ? Absolutely
But when things go bad we don’t turn on each other

Los Angeles is a bad example cause nobody in LA really think about others than themselves
It’s because it’s overcrowded, superficial , and somewhat segregated by income and race

however I love visiting that place
And the people I met are super nice once you get to know them

Man , i was really proud of Houston during the protests with most people appearing to wear masks and keeping things peaceful.

I do think we have strong-ish leadership too . Regardless of whether you like turner or not , most people wouldnt call him partisan. I've been out of town for a few years so i'm not totally in tune with the climate , but it seems like he has avoided invoking trump and the resulting fuss people get into.

Also thought he did a good job , really the whole city's leadership did great during Harvey. Yes he made the decision to flood those places , he had rationale and stood by his actions. Yes he decided not to evacuate, once again he didnt run away from his choice. Most people realize that he was in a tough position to make 50/50 calls and stood by his actions. Cant ask too much more than that. Well anyways, my point from that is that it bought the leadership and the city govt a little goodwill ... which helped to diffuse the powderkeg that was the george floyd situation. Not saying we are perfect and couldnt do things better on that front, but you can change things without devolving into chaos / rioting.

    It's the Houston way.

When other teams win championships, people start rioting and fires . It's not only when something bad happens.

Houston we just celebrate because there's a connection between all of us.

In LA, those people in West Hollywood don't understand the people in Inglewood . Beverly Hills doesn't get Echo Park.

But in Houston, Katy people get Sugarland people.

Fifth Ward gets Thirdward. even outside 610 people get the 610 people
