    Behind six solid innings from Verlander and a three-run homer by Brantley, the Astros beat the Mariners, 8-2, for their eighth Opening Day win a row. They've yet to lose an Opening Day game as a member of the AL. Oh, and they've won 19 of last 20 against Seattle.

    That was Dusty Baker's 3,500th big league game as manager.
