We will just disagree on AG. I’m not saying AG is trash but he isn’t worth the opportunity cost of EG plus a bargain Free Agent. And the players you listed as the hybrid all made an impact by the age 25. AG would be a good gamble for OKC, not a win now team like HOU
6'10 wingspan. He projects as a tremendous defensive wing though if he can keep the effort up. Laterally very quick. Good size, athletic, close to being a decent 3pt shooter. Started his career on one of the worst teams in the NBA. I would still try to get him, but I'm sure anything TILMAN is willing to pay, Grizzlies would match.
Tony Allen has also taken him under his wing and Jackson has responded well. I doubt Grizz will try to keep him.
Tilman's restaurant and casino business is crumbling. The NBA has cannot play in front of fans. With what money do you think Tilman is gonna pay for free agents?
Jackson would absolutely be a reclamation project we should be bidding for. A two year deal with a player option for the third year would be a great win-win for everyone involved. He can be an elite roll player.
So fill it with potential high return on little to nothing invested. Minimum contracts with team control on younger players that haven’t lived up to their potential. I thought the Bennett signing was fantastic. (We should resign him) The players have failed and should be humbled and ready for success with a second chance. Maybe we can help them find their fit in our system. We have no draft picks so who else are we going to grow our team? If they bust who cares cut them; but the one that doesn’t is the difference we need not only talent wise but cap wise too. Fill up the roster in position of need—> long, 3pt shooting forwards. The more have the better the chance of on panning out. Let the Vipers be champions yet again. We have the space and nothing to lose.
No player options only team options we want the 3rd year as the payoff year. Cheap talent is the goal. The 3rd year is when the “magic” happens and we want that in our uniform. Year 1 Recovery / Retrain, Year 2 cut or keep, then if year 3 happens think of it as them paying us back for salvaging their career. No more than 1 year in the G league. It happens or we move to the next one.
The issue with Josh Jackson is 100% between his ears. If he has stability off the court, he will be very good on the court. He has a slightly above average wingspan at 6'10", but it is a little short for a small ball 4, but he may be able to make it work. He also has small hands, which will hurt him a little defensively, but doesn't seem to make much difference on the offensive end as he still is a good ball handler. He finishes really well, and last year started limiting poor two point shots. As for his three point shot, I am confident he will become at least as good as Ariza. He has a natural aptitude, it will just require focus and practice. Whoever gets him, isn't going to get a lock down defender, but will get someone capable of being a pretty good one because of his athleticism. His main strength is as a scorer and potential rebounder. He is someone the Rockets have had interest in, in the past.
I would love for that to play out that way but his agent will not let it happen. He would make more money by going to a cellar dweller team but his incentive for coming here is looking great in our system and balling out and getting a fat contract after two years.
I see Jackson as more of a wing, off the bench SG. Even though he is 6'8, he is skinny and needs to add more strength. Josh is a prolific and creative scorer (all 3 levels) but his playmaking could be unlocked in MDA system. His 6'10 wingspan is compensated by his athleticism/explosiveness and BBIQ, especially on D. Kid loves the fast break and is a rim wrecker when he finishes. Josh plays hard, especially on defense attacking passing lanes, sticking tight on perimeter and excellent weakside blocker. Compared to Jimmy Butler coming out of school, but Josh is taller (6'8 to 6'7) and longer (6'10 vs. 6'8 wingspan). Wingspan compares to both Hawks John Collins (6'11) and Grizz Brandon Clarke (6'8) who are also both high fliers. He would be an upgrade to House IMO, if he can get his head straight off the court.
Low risk, high reward. Think Ben McLemore signing terms, another former lottery pick reclamation project.
