I think MLB has a blanket consent under CBA or other agreement (e.g., standard MLB contract) to report on the field injuries without getting consent each injury, but yes, HIPPA still is applicable for every non-work related injury. Just don't tell Matsui, he might have a case against the Astros as I'm not sure his injury was work-related and it isn't something most players would consent to making public.
Sure... if its in their contract or CBA, then implicit consent has already been provided. Obviously we're all being presumptuous that Urquidy and Alvarez have Covid... it could still be something else... but they don't have to release that info if the players don't feel the need to disclose.
John McClain, "what's wrong with Jose/Yordan, Gary?" Coach Kubiak, "They've both got a human body, John. Working hard, battling to get back with the team."
If you're sick, you will never be forced to tell anybody what you have... nor can another entity broadcast what you have even if they have "sources" telling them what it is. And in this situation, there's a good chance the team knows what's going on... but they are not obligated (or likely not even legally allowed) to tell the media.... let alone the fans who are getting upset by not knowing.
LOL. Actually, the NFL is the league where HIPPA virtually doesn't exist. All injuries not only have to be disclosed but they have to be very exact about their timetables. Why you may ask? Well, gambling probably has close to 98% to do with it...
No doubt, plus why give anyone the heads-up if WFV is going to play or not?! Also, I want to formally amend my prior quote. Kubes might just say they have "a lung."
Being upset by not knowing is part of it. True. But the other part is that MLB has a difficult course to navigate as is, but how can they make the best choices and decisions when the "system" deprives them of some of the most crucial facts? This is so f#cked up.
Like I said earlier, teams likely know very well what's going on... but teams also have very little control over when test results come back (or if the testers even bother to show up at all). The only one truly being deprived right now is the media. But that's also partly because MLB is literally coming up with this plan on the fly, and teams are attempting to practice/train in areas that are exploding in numbers.

Kind of...doctors nor employers or anyone else really can reveal a medical condition you have, you have to give your permission for that to happen. It's not just Covid and not just baseball players
Josh James has reported to Astros summer camp. Also, Astros pitching coach Brent Strom and bullpen coach Josh Miller are at Minute Maid Park, as are a handful of major league pitchers. When asked if Urquidy and Alvarez would be ready for Opening Day, GM James Click said: "Hoping so." Astros general manager James Click: "Having gone through a couple of these fire drills — I guess that’s the best analogy — it makes me have a lot more faith in the protocols we have in place.”
Bregman and springer both with HRs today in the intrasquad game. Saw correa with a single, maldonado with a double as well.
I watched a couple of his at bats. To me, it seems like he’s tracking the ball well and putting some good swings on it. With yordan potentially missing time, it’s even more of an opportunity for him to take a job
