naw man... i was talking about just the NBA players - not all of society. To do herd immunity wide scale leads to too high a risk regarding compromised people...
I'm just wondering if you had herd immunity with the players - would you provide a safer environment for older coaches and such while preventing the restart from being sidetracked by a potential outbreak at anytime... key players potentially going out at any time...
Obviously you dont want to put anybody at risk any more than you have to... just wondering what risk level is there with a professional athlete caliber person. i honestly have no clue... is it miniscule?...jus blathering hypotheticals... lol

Covid did unfortunately coincide with the annual emergence of Influenza which is said to kill elderly people during the winter days.

The US population is around 330,000,000. 3,000,000 is just less than 1% of that. 7% would be about 23,000,000.

130K deaths from 3M infections is closer to 4.4% not 7%. I was calculating current mortality rate and mistyped it as population %.

Apologies for the error due to quick calculations.

Although that slip does not change the point being made, herd immunity via infection is not a good solution.

From what the data shows us the risk of death for physically fit people under 40 is effectively zero, but that doesn't mean there isn't risk. As other people have pointed out it's not well understood, and has potential to cause other long term effects.

To deliberately expose the entire NBA so that we can fulfill our tv contracts?

    Sounds like an insanely aw-

    some idea!

Can't believe they didn't attempt to seek another bubble site.

Can't believe nobody thought of the perks of outdoor courts.... better air circulation, those droplets have more space to disperse.

Yea. I find myself wondering now why not Wyoming? I know that the court situation would be problematic but I don't know.

I'm sure they thought about outdoor courts, but you can't change the game that much midseason. ALL of the teams play indoors, this isn't like the NFL.

    A) where are the courts?
    B) where are the hotels?
    C) where is the entertainment to keep the millionaire athletes content?

Wyoming doesn't have the infrastructure. There's a reason they put the "bubble" in Orlando despite Florida being one of the top states for infections.

Hopefully James is going to be ok now and down the road. That’s the most important thing here.

I just don’t see how the NBA or MLB is going to actually be able to finish these experiments. May end up with finals that includes teams with 7 deep benches and remote coaching. Just doesn’t feel right.

There is more and more evidence that there are long-lasting implications, including possible brain damage. This is not the flu. Nobody knows the extent of what it is yet and nobody should be messing around with it like it's nothing.
