One positive result of the racial turmoil sparked initially by the Floyd murder... MS is finally removing the confederate flag part of their state flag.

Here conservative pundit ben shapiro claims that republicans didn't get credit for this change.

It's fair. Republicans should get some credit for coming along to get this long-overdue change done. But there were 37 votes cast against the change between the two houses of the legislature. I wasn't able to quickly find it with a google search, but would it be presumptuous to think that all 37 of those politicians have an R after their names? Maybe Republicans don't want quite as much credit as Shapiro would give them.

Let's just say it was a bipartisan effort and a big win. I'm happy for you, Mississippi.

What are the negative impacts to the government and the state's economy? How much will it cost?

That flag looks like it was made in MS paint.

I'm honestly shocked. I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime, tbh, in Mississippi.

How much does a 1-hr subscription to MS Paint cost?

Good job, Mississippi. It should have been done a long time ago, but better late than never.

All of the no votes were Republicans. The only Republican that deserves credit is the speaker of the house who has been trying to change the flag since the Charleston shooting in 2015. But he hasn't been able to get enough of his caucus to support it until now and he convinced the Governor to accept a bill that didn't require a referendum. But this isn't some profile in courage. This is a recognition that even in Mississippi the Republicans have to try and look somewhat modern and that there is no political upside to keeping the flag around.

They'll have to toss all the merch with the old logo. But I don't think they're going to need a big media campaign to socialize the new logo -- you know, because they are a monopoly and Mississippians can't just shop elsewhere for their governance needs.

Anyway, it should be more good for their economy than bad. Companies prejudiced to think Mississippi is a bad place to do business because they're a bunch of backward yokels will believe so incrementally less. In fact, MS could do a marketing blitz after all and promote the state as a hip, new, exciting place to live and work, complete with a snazzy new flag.

Someone say MS? stay trucha, carnales.

(not throwing up the MS-13 hand sign, just UT longhorns, don't trip, completely normal.)

Ooopsies. Wrong MS thread. But it is pleasantly surprising that Reeves will sign. They do deserve the credit for that. He could be petty like the president and just delay the whole thing, like the $20 dollar bill . As for the article shapi referenced, it did say legislature which includes the 120+ members.
Other than Texas and Califas, PR, I'm really unfamiliar with the flags of the states and territories.

    The Senate
Passing the resolution in the Senate required a two-thirds vote, or 35 senators. The resolution officially passed 36-14, with Sen. Tyler McCaughn, R-Newton, who voted against the resolution, announcing a vote pair. That means that McCaughn acknowledged that Sen. Philip Moran, R-Bay St. Louis, who was not present for the vote, would have voted for the resolution, effectively canceling out each other's votes.

I didn't even know that Microsoft had a flag, let alone a racist one. But yeah, they should change it.

    I'm fine w/ giving R's credit for passing a bill that's overdue.

This election will stress test their computer driven gerrymandering. Hope they got everyone represented!

Who do you think came up with Broken Windows police policies?
