TBH this 1955 original version is the best IMO.

I rewatched one of my favorite movies last weekend (Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and I think the Brie Larson version of Black Sheep by Metric was better than the original. Interestingly, there is supposed to be a 10 year anniversary theatrical rerelease of the movie but I guess that's up in the air due to the corona.

    Original

Movie version with Brie Larson singing

For Minnesota. Two covers of "The Mary Tyler Moore Theme / Love is All Around". The first by Minnesota band Husker Du

Joan Jett. This version was on the sound track of Drop Dead Gorgeous, a film set in Minnesota.

I somehow missed SS' In Bloom, which is great, thanks for posting. Love The Promise, and that whole album.

need to listen to Brown Sabbath, but as long as we're discussing Fairies & Boots:

Wow. Far out covers, all three, @rocketsjudoka! Morgan James (what a voice!) reminds me of one of my favorite groups to see play in a club from 1967 to the end of the decade, Mother Earth, a large blues/rock band fronted by Tracy Nelson (what a voice!). Tracy wrote a great blues song, Down So Low, that was later covered by Linda Ronstadt. Below is Linda singing it live in Offenbach, Germany in 1976.

Here is the original. Tracy Nelson with Mother Earth singing Down So Low in 1968, from Living With the Animals.

Brownout/Brown Sabbath is one of the funnest gigs you'll ever see.

    Ludicrous fun.

    Not a cover, but...

This looks like a good thread I will have to read through at some point.

I'm not going to say this better than the original, but I have always loved Filter's cover of "One (Is the Loneliest Number)" from the X-Files movie soundtrack.

If you just want a treasure trove of covers that are better than their original, check out Leo Moracchioli's metal covers of any and all things. He has a LOT of them.
