Here are 7 stunning details from a new report about John Bolton’s explosive book

Though the Trump administration is making a show of trying to stop it, former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s book is already making waves.

The New York Times, which received an advance copy of the book before its official publication next week, published a report on Wednesday laying out some of its key revelations.

While Bolton himself is in many ways a duplicitous and untrustworthy figure, his allegations about President Donald Trump are worth taking seriously. We’ve already seen that much of what is going on behind closed doors is nefarious and detrimental to the country — and a person with Bolton’s access would likely know many of the White House’s darkest secrets.

Here are 7 stunning details from the report:

    1. Bolton confirms that Trump’s infamous Ukraine quid pro quo was explicit
    2. Bolton says that similar incidents occurred with Turkey and China
    3. Trump tried to get China to help him win re-election, the book claims
    4. Trump reportedly did not know Britain is a nuclear power
    5. Trump reportedly asked if Finland is a part of Russia
    6. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly dismissed Trump’s overtures to North Korea as useless
    7. Bolton says he reported cases of Trump’s potential abuses of power to Attorney General Bill Barr

Haven't been paying attention to Turkey, but it was well publicized that Trump left HK Protestors high and dry just so he can secure that meaningless "Phase One" that will ultimately be the Last Phase post-Corona.

    Maybe more, wouldn't be surprised...

These books and tell-alls continue to show the same thing...that we have an unscrupled, crooked, wanna-be-despot in charge. While that's a problem, the bigger problem is that the entity that is supposed to be in charge of checking him hasn't done it's job. Every Republican Senator not named Mitt Romney, abdicated their duty earlier this year when they could have put a stop to this...hell, at least have a proper trial about it...instead, they only cared about themselves and their election chances.

They failed us all...they all need to be voted out.

I don't think this is a matter of liking Bolton or if this should redeem Bolton. It's a matter of how likely true what Bolton is saying. For me a lot of this fits with what we know of Trump. We know that Trump has cut deals with the PRC and even bragged that he was going to create a lot of jobs in China. We know that he was desperate to get a Phase 1 deal signed and seemed more eager about it than the PRC was. We also know that during the worst of the HK uprising Trump was fairly quiet. He did sign the HK Freedom act but that seemed largely due to overwhelming Congressional support for it. It was only just recently when the PRC passed their new security law and have backtracked on Phase 1 that Trump has taken a harder line on the PRC regarding HK.

I also agree with Bolton that impeachment should've been much more than regarding the Ukraine call. While that was very serious I still think there are other things (maybe not the same things that Bolton thinks) that are more damning and a stronger case could be made.

Journalists should be executed. Chinese concentration camps is the right thing to do. Is Finland part of Russia? Just another day in the office.

Impeachment probably would have been more than just Ukraine if Bolton was willing to testify. Instead, he decided to stay back and get his book written so that he could profit off it as he knew Republican Senators weren't going to budge.

Trump, on several occasions, wanted to "give personal favors to dictators he liked" by offering to kill federal criminal investigations in the US into foreign companies based out of China and Turkey.
Trump told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he would "take care" of a criminal investigation into a Turkish company being pursued by federal prosecutors in New York and said "that the Southern District prosecutors were not his people, but were Obama people, a problem that would be fixed when they were replaced by his people."

Trump had a poor command over national security and foreign policy issues, including not knowing that the United Kingdom was a nuclear power and asking if Finland was a part of Russia.

At the 2019 G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, Trump pleaded with Chinese President Xi Jinping to purchase large quantities of American soybeans and wheat to help Trump's 2020 reelection chances.

Trump told Xi that Americans wanted him to be able to serve more than two terms as president.

Trump supported China holding Uighur Muslims in concentration camps: "According to our interpreter, Trump said that Xi should go ahead with building the camps, which Trump thought was exactly the right thing to do," Bolton writes.

In intelligence briefings, "much of the time was spent listening to Trump, rather than Trump listening to the briefers," and Trump lacked the respect of many of his high-level staff members.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo listened in on a call between Trump and South Korea's president before Trump's 2018 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. After the call, Pompeo said he was "having a cardiac arrest" while Bolton said the conversation was like a "near-death experience."

At the summit itself, Bolton said Pompeo passed him a notecalling Trump "full of s---."

Trump, who has frequently referred to Kim as "little rocket man," was fixated on having Pompeo give an autographed copy of Elton John's "Rocket Man" to Kim on a diplomatic trip to North Korea.

Trump said it would be "cool" for the United States to invade Venezuela, describing the South American nation as "really part of the United States."

In a 2019 meeting in New Jersey, Bolton said that Trump suggested that journalists should be more jailed more easily and forced to give up their sources, calling reporters "scumbags" and saying they should be "executed."

Trump's decision to release a statement defending Saudia Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in November 2018 after the killing of Jamal Khashoggi was meant to distract from an unflattering story about his daughter Ivanka, a White House advisor, using a private email account.

Shortly after Bolton joined the White House, former Chief of Staff John Kelly told him, "You can't imagine how desperate I am to get out of here." He added: "This is a bad place to work, as you will find out."

The two party system in this country is corrupt almost its core. The media is complicit in that. I will also say Clinton and Biden are not good candidates which is from the results of said corruption. In saying that. This man is an absolute embarrassment for the Republican Party. They had a good idea when they wanted someone from outside the establishment. But this man played you all for fools. History will laugh at the fact that a group of people somehow supported this clown. This is probably just a few drops in the bucket of will come out eventually along with all the people that will turn on him when is eventually out of power, and Trump is of no use to them any longer.

would not have made a single difference. The GOP decided to ride this out and through. They had plenty enough to convict. Bolton testimony or additional charges would not have changed the result. Thus, vote them all out.

I agree he probably wouldn't have been removed as 67 senators is a very high bar. More senators might've voted to hear witnesses like Bolton and once that testimony is out publicly and under oath might've swayed public opinion more even among Trump supporters.

I think they would not. Their calculation is they can depend on the DOJ to stop Bolton from publishing or to twist it later - he’s a liar. That’s a win for them, they thought. Probably logically the right bet, but instead of having it over and done with if he has testified, now this may backfire if it get played out over weeks or months with the lawsuit and interest.

talking about suing... DOJ is suing to block this book because it contained classified material. Is classified info not true?

This! I don't care if he ends up behind bars as long as he exposes the corrupt politicians that he keeps promising to do. The problem is he already has exposed some but everyone is distracted by his belligerence. My hope is that he keeps fighting and exposes it before the election or if he's elected, before he's impeached....again. While he's there he might as well blow the lid off everything.
