I’ll wait for one or more of our most knowledgeable members to produce the inevitable list of who we could pick from, and compete with other teams to sign. How it impacts a team’s cap is a big deal, of course. Is that tinkered with by the league to give teams a waiver of some kind with how signing those 2 players impacts dancing around the luxury tax?

The Rockets need a front court player and a 3&D player. I’m not sure what the requirements are for the 2 additional spots but if they can be anyone that isn’t currently on a roster then I suggest the below.

Realistic front court players could be Ryan Anderson, Kenneth Faried or Anthony Bennett. I feel like Anderson Is the most probable out of the three. He has a good relationship with the coaches/players on the team, the Rockets looked at bringIng him back this season and he won’t cause any problems in the locker room bc he won’t be asking for PT. Bennett depends on health and how he looked with the team this past offseason. I was really intrigued with Bennett before his injury and thought that he could fit the system really well. Bennett would be my first choice if I were the Rockets bc it would give them an extended look to see if he could be part of the team next season. I feel like Faried is a long shot but wanted to include him just in case.

3&D will be difficult and they might have to settle for either 3 or D. Shumpert would fit the defensive need. JR Smith would fit the 3 point shooter need.

The Rockets might go in a totally different direction and decide that they need to look at younger players. No matter who they sign, I doubt that they will see any meaningful PT this season. The Rockets top 10 players are pretty solidified and the extra signings would be in case of injury. Hopefully no one gets injured and the Rockets don’t need to call on the extra players for help.

 

We got plenty of oversized guards and undersized forwards/centers. We need a Dewayne Dedmond type for one of the spots in my opinion then BPA.
