Panjo's Pizza!! I remember when the spot where Goode Co BBQ is now on the Katy Freeway was the Cellar Door. I'm old.
A lot of mom/pop ethnic places (hole in wall) that was part of the Houston immigration boom in the 70's/80's are on the cusp of closing... not necessarily because of Covid but because the owners are now older and their college graduate children have gone on to careers that go beyond running a restaurant.
I used to go to Panjo's pizza on Memorial near Ashford Parkway after little league games in the 70s. Pitchers of soda!
Not necessarily covid related and not necessarily completely closing but I read Lubys is on the brink.
yes, sir!! I used to go the one in the Town & Country area. I remember on Friday nights they'd have live music with tons of families in there. There is still one in Rockport. About 5 or so years back, I was there with family and we went to eat there. There was no way it would be as good as my nostalgia, so it's not really fair to give a review of it!
yeah, they have been for years. They're not talking bankruptcy, but they're trying to find a buyer of the assets, including all the recipes and concepts, etc. They're doing the same with the Fuddrucker's brand, as well, I read.
Dude their fried fish, Mac n cheese and green beans are legit. Huge Luby’s fan but barely ever eat there.
That fried fish square recipe must be worth something. I haven’t been in years but I used to love that thing.
hey man if you enjoy it that's cool. I haven't eaten there since late 80's early 90's with my grandparents. I am just presuming it is bad.
I think they were in trouble before COVID-19, but it made it worse. I remember eating there once as a kid, but could've sworn it had a stigma as being "geriatric food" or something.
