I think Snow's in Lexington would be still be top of my list. (I wonder if they made it through this Corona mess)
Franklin and Snow's are still 1A and 1B with me for brisket. And last I heard they were still open. They're still only open 1 day a week. I think a lot of these bbq places may face issues with the pricing on meat nowadays thanks to the meat processing issues. BBQ was starting to get really pricey for a "low-quality" cut of meat, but prices are nuts now. I think most places are probably selling for around $20/lbs now for brisket from what I've seen. I remember when BBQ was cheap. Damn hipsters.
thanks for the update on Snows. Yeah pricing is getting crazy and It's gotten to about $24 per pound. and a friend who runs a small BBQ trailer in Lago Vista has def been having issues getting prime briskets.
One of my friends owns a really busy taco restaurant and he says the increase on the price of meat is killing his margins across the board, especially on Wednesday(his busiest day) when he has a special for one dollar tacos.
Thats not creative. Taco Bell already helps the world out by shredding all the excess Amazon delivery boxes into their beef. You want creative, look no further than Carltons BLT
Well since I’m staying in the Heights this week I decided to make it over to Truth BBQ to see how it stacked up. Moist Brisket was a just a little on the dry side, and way on the salty side. I’m not just talking about the bark but throughout it was salty AF. Made me wonder if they brined it or injected it. I’d have to give it a C- Pork ribs were better but nothing to write home about. cooked well and not near as salty. I’d give them a B this is what $24 (Before tax and tip) of mediocre BBQ looks like:
That's crazy. For real? Next time I'm in Houston (which will be a while, at this rate) I'll be sure to give them a wide berth.
I liked Truth when I went. Thought it had some of the best ribs I've ever had. Brisket wasn't the best to me, but didn't think it was a C. I'll have to go back and try again. I have been meaning to go to Pinkerton's.
Over the years I’ve had some of the best in the state so my grade may reflect that. The ribs were decent, but the brisket was meh. Now granted Wednesday at noon might not be the best time to get BBQ, but I got Pinkerton Sunday at 6 pm and I would think I’d be getting the old end of the day stuff at that time so who knows.
Oh...that's some of the absolute worst. I'd go to Pappas before I go to that place. I wish COVID would've killed that place. It doesn't deserve to live.
Shame to hear that about Truth........I've always had a good experience there. The brisket isn't Snows, but it's always been at least a B for me. And their sides are awesome. Hopefully it was a one-off.
