Also children under 5 are now dying from new respiratory syndromes. Not to mention the kidney damage and blood clots and lung scarring.

At current pace, we're going to have nearly half a million dead by election day to go with 20 % unemployment, the Jorge's and bass of the world can scream about nursing homes all they want but that's a ****ing Holocaust with hundreds of thousands of non elderly people including children dead.

False, just like the rest of your predictions over the last 3 months. Shall we go back and pull all of your other bunk predictions just to publicly shame you further? I will continue to bring DATA to prove the fear mongers wrong. The fear mongers at this point are just rooting for political damage to Trump - that's all this is.

There is no reason for the working age population and younger to be fearful of this virus. It's past time to reopen - we're late actually. We must reverse course before there is no economy left to return to. We need to make this recovery look like a natural disaster recovery, not an economic depression recovery. This will benefit the lowest on the socioeconomic ladder the most. I've been showing the data demonstrating a few things:

    1. Testing positivity rates are declining - showing that the virus is dying out. Dr Scott Gottlieb's twitter makes this point well.

    2. This is a virus that almost exclusively targets the sick/elderly.
    • Nursing homes, long term care facilities represent around HALF of all deaths.
    • Around 90% of those deaths involved other MAJOR health problems, like hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory problems.
    • 59% of deaths were age 85 or older.

That's the actual data folks. Of the 80,000 deaths that have been COVID related, only around 10% of them (8,000) didn't already have major pre-existing health problems. For comparison, around 8,000 people die per day of all causes in the USA. Now that we are armed with facts and data, it's clear that blanket lockdown is not an effective policy. In fact, I challenge anyone to show me a statistical analysis that shows that lockdown is effective in even slowing the spread versus non-lockdown. Compare states and countries that locked down versus the ones that didn't lockdown. There is no observable difference in spread. Locking down is stupid - it doesn't slow the spread, it destroys jobs, it misallocates health care resources, and it reduces funding for healthcare.

You will see the difference once everyone starts opening up. Even during lockdown flights didn't stop completely, grocery stores, hardware stores, liquor stores, etc.. didn't close. Even during lockdown people were ignoring restrictions and quarantines were being ignored by people. Even during lockdowns people were gathering in groups. People like you, who believe it's a hoax are brainwashed by your cult type leader and following.

If you think letting elderly people and those with medical problems getting Coronavirus and dying don't count, then go have a shot of bleach on me. Your poor Mother must feel really special today, knowing how much you care.

We've already observed this in other states and countries. No increase. In fact the opposite - a decrease! There is no proof that locking down stops the spread and saves lives. When compared against states/countries that didn't lock down, there is no statistical improvement. None. So telling people that when lockdown is lifted, things will get worse, is just plan indefensible.

I'm looking at the hard data to drive my thinking - you are relying on what exactly? Government bureaucrats with really bad track records of predictions? Government bureaucrats who are loathe to reverse coarse on disastrous lockdown policies because doing so would be an admission that their original policies failed?

It's quite easy for the media to fool people. It's quite difficult to convince people they have been fooled. And fooled you have been.

177 days till the election. Our average daily death count is ~2000, with social distancing.

    Let me do the math

That equals a ****ing massacre shithead.

My goodness this is ignorant analysis. It omits the impact of herd immunity, of treatment, and it omits the impact of mitigation efforts (mainly hygiene) that were not in place as the virus spread early in the year. The virus will run its course (just like in other countries) as we get smart about protecting and treating the elderly in nursing homes and long term care - especially in states like New York and New Jersey where almost half of the deaths have occurred.

We need to tune out fear pornographers like SamFisher - they are just doing this for political expediency. Locking down society will be MORE HARMFUL in terms of deaths, lost jobs, mental health, and whole host of other factors. It's past time we reverse course on this disastrous policy.

Pompeo infuriating foreign allies and his own staff by pushing COVID-19 conspiracy theories: It ‘will just undermine us in the end’

According to a report from the Daily Beast, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is upsetting foreign allies — as well as some of his own staffers — by spouting unfounded conspiracy rumors about the COVID-19 pandemic at a time when they are attempting to work together to solve the riddle of the health crisis that has affected millions worldwide.

Donald Trump’s chief diplomat has been harshly criticized for promoting an unproven story stating that coronavirus pandemic had its genesis in a lab in China, and that is infuriating allies who are launching an investigation saying Pompeo is making their job harder.

“As international pressure mounts for an investigation into the origins of the deadly coronavirus, officials in the State Department say they are increasingly wary about Secretary Mike Pompeo continuing to push a theory that scientists and foreign intelligence officials have already shot down, claiming it could have disastrous diplomatic consequences,” the report begins.

According to the Beast’s Erin Banco, “In a press conference last week, Pompeo said there was ‘enormous evidence’ that the virus originated in the lab. China has denied the claims. And foreign intelligence officials and even members of the White House’s own coronavirus task force have pushed back against that claim, saying the virus most likely originated in the wild and was naturally transmitted from animal to human, possibly in a public market.”

One State Department official privately complained about both Pompeo and Trump.

“I think most Western countries are getting to where the U.S. wants them to be,” the official explained. “But the more Pompeo and Trump talk like this, the higher the chances of an Iraq intel repeat happening… which will just undermine us in the end.”

According to senior officials in the administration, Pompeo is “is moving too quickly to publicly conclude what intelligence officials around the world are either still trying to understand or have said is inaccurate.”

“One official told The Daily Beast that their counterparts in Europe and Australia have over the past week voiced frustration at Pompeo, saying his statements not only contradict parts of their intelligence assessments but that they would make it difficult for the countries to get China to allow an independent investigation,” the report states. “Another official said Europe’s skittishness was a result of ‘needing medical equipment from China.’”

The report notes Pompeo is also creating tension within the ranks of the State Department over his comments.

“There’s a real concern that as a department we’ve gone way out on a limb,” one senior State Department official said. “At the end of the day details matter. We don’t want to get into another situation where we’re coming out claiming all these things and then we have to backtrack later.”

Only you have been fooled. I don't need the media or data. It's common sense. Maybe if Trump had any, he would have realized by what was happening in Italy that this was serious. Maybe if he had not fooled himself into believing it was a flu that would go away in April, we would have prepared more. Maybe if he wasn't so focused on slamming everyone on Twitter, the media, his ratings, and rallying his followers he would have taken more action to test and track all long term care facilities and nursing homes, and ensure that people weren't dying because of lack of testing, supplies, and pure neglect.

Keep drinking that Trump Kool-Aide if you want, but I'll pass on that.

...well at least you admit you don't "need the data". Kinda disqualifies you from participating in intelligence discourse.

I've proven my case with data and facts. Soon others will realize that many of our state level leaders have no clue what they are doing... and few, if any, of our government health bureaucrats know what they are doing. The data will continue to speak truth... in the face of media and politicians' lies.

    Have a blessed Mother's Day!

We’ve known early on that the sick/elderly were the most vulnerable. This isn’t new information. It’s always been about how do we protect those who are the most vulnerable. Yes, we know that young and healthy people have little to fear when it comes to their own health. The fear is that young people will give the virus to people who are vulnerable to the virus. As we have seen, it can be quite challenging to protect a subset of the population. The quarantine has always been about trying to protect that vulnerable subset of people.

I’m sure many mistakes have been made. We have certainly failed miserably in protecting people in nursing homes. The lack of testing has been a major failing. Trump and his administration failed miserably by downplaying the threat early on. The threat is certainly real, even if it threatens just a subset of the population. Personally, I think the quarantine has probably helped to reduce the spread. But, it could be that the use of masks, hand washing, and social distancing without a quarantine may have been a better choice. But, we listened to the experts, and the experts said a quarantine was needed.

As we now move forward in gradually opening things up, questions will probably be answered. We will see if new cases increase or decrease. Lessons will be learned, and we will know more than we know now. As long as our healthcare system isn’t being overwhelmed, I have no problem with trying to open things up. But, can we please do something about protecting all those people in nursing homes? It’s almost like all those nursing home residents are out of sight, out of mind. Really shameful.

In regard to the percentage of positive tests declining. This should be no surprise as testing is made available to more people. In the beginning, the only people allowed to get a test were people who were showing extreme signs of the virus. Now, people are being tested that show very few symptoms of the virus. So, yes the percentage of positive tests is dropping. However, it should be noted that the actual number of positive tests nationally has not really dropped very much at all.

Are you this much of an idiot or just trolling?

Here’s the FACTS about what happened:

-Nov- Virus breaks out in Wuhan
-China is silent about virus but intelligence sources alert US and others
-Trump learns of virus in January at the latest. Does nothing
-Trump downplays, invokes it as a “hoax”
-Virus is in the US from Washington and NY first
-Trump and Pence create a task force with little options because virus is already here
-They decide to buy time with blunt instrument (social distancing) so we didn’t overwhelm our hospitals and create an Italy like collapse of health care system
-Now we are steadily using a push-pull strategy of reopening what we can in the hopes of having a stable economy while the world waits for a vaccine.

What the TRUMP ADMIN did under the circumstance was a decision not based on solving the virus but a decision to lessen the blow and the death toll. The game was already lost when Trump ignored the crisis coming in the winter months when he should have taken action and didn’t.

But you’ll never admit that. Birx and Fauci should be regarded as life savers for Trump fans because they have helped Trump look a bit better when he was about to look at the complete collapse of our healthcare system and mass death on his watch.

All that being said Fauci and Birx still failed in a maintaining strategy since we are blowing other countries death counts out of the water. Fauci and Birx are also setting up Trump to fail on a re-opening strategy which is obvious that it should have relied on mass testing. But no... nobody could get through to the idiot in Chief because he’s dumb enough to think that if people don’t see the numbers then they’ll believe it’s gone and go back to their daily lives.

Again... people aren’t as stupid as you think they are.

I'll give you data in a month, after the "opening up" effects start to surface. I hope you are right honestly, but I have a sick feeling you are wrong. Time will tell.

So I was in favour of the lockdown, and I still think it was the right thing to do at the time. But I am now in favour of opening up again, with hygiene and mitigation.

    I'd draw the line at:

    No mass gatherings (e.g. festivals)
Clubs with dance floors to remain closed
Obligation to wear masks in public transportation and shopping centers

And find some measures to protect old people in nursing homes as best as possible.

I would pretty much open up everything else again now. Restaurants, bars, with a mandate to arrange for some physical distancing. Can't keep people locked up forever. The indirect damage is too much.

When someone says they dont data, it kind of opens your eyes if youre really on the right side of things (fear mongering coronavirus will kill all believers vs its not that serious folks). Trader makes good points with facts, something most people on the other side wont even try to find facts of their own to dispute against.

not sure who you’re chatting with, but good post.

a big point I don’t think you included: part of the government measures were to keep the medical system from being overwhelmed. When that happens, like in N Italy and NYC, we see:
    * death rate climbs b/c insufficient care of COVID patients
    * medical workers get sick at an alarming rate.
    * greatly reduced emergency services for all the normal heart attacks, car accident victims, and so on.

ive totally accepted we are opening back up, but I wish honest people could all acknowledge why we slowed down so dramatically.

Hopefully these new antigen tests (faster, more accurate) will really help us moving forward. Knowing who has the virus would be such a huge help.
