So let me get this straight he wants state governments to be able to declare bankruptcy. Who would lend money to state governments in the future?

Doesn’t Trump have the authority to make states declare bankruptcy?

He's made everything else he's ever been associated with declare bankruptcy, why should the USA be any different?

Hmph...Old Mitch is trying to go back to his budget-conscious ways now all of a sudden...didn't seem to have a problem when it came to tax cuts or bailing out corporations or anything that put money in his back pocket.

Man, I hope he loses in November. I could even stand Trump winning again if Mitch ended up on the losing end in his race and the Republicans lost the Senate.

I don't know if governors see this as an either / or, that tax base isn't coming back any time soon and there are all kinds of contracted liabilities they'd probably want to get out of.

What's really idiotic is that blue states drive most of the US economy.

    Cuomo slammed him well:

This is not a serious proposition from McConnell, there is no governor of any state who would willingly file for bankruptcy, it is a loser for cities, it would be a disaster for states.

The fox news bubbleverse seems to think COVID19 is a blue state problem. I don't know how many more thousands need to die for this not to be true. Go to Ohio or Louisiana or Florida. Go to Georgia or South Carolina after they reopen their bowling alleys while the infection is raging. Go ask the SEC when their football season is canceled. This is not a "blue state" problem. Red states will be affected too. They already are. The same goes for their revenue base.

tl;dr, Mitch is a ****ing traitor and an idiot, ignore him.

Here's former SC governor and trump admin member nikki haley, supporting mcconnell's position. Let's see how she did as governor?

Nikki Haley says states shouldn’t take federal help for COVID-19. She has a short memory.

People still have to pay property taxes, franchise fees and and permitting fees.
Property taxes in Texas keep going up and up and up.
So county and state revenue hasn't dropped by much.

The sad truth is a majority of cities created pensions unattainable in any free market and
as a gift to government employees. Lifetime pensions at nearly your highest income for life
when retiring in your 50's is not sustainable. The companies doing this nearly all went
bankrupt. Orange County went bankrupt. Perhaps some bond investors should lose some
money and know that their investments won't always get bailed out and may only invest in
    municipalities with good financial sense.

This is a very calculated and smart play by a man that regularly runs circles around the Democrats. This is all about the electoral college and maintaining seats and making this a blue versus red situation will lead to this scenario. Also many people will have zero empathy for saving pensions at this point in time.
