YOu can read articles in the New Yorker, a very clear anti Trump publication, that clearly lay this out.

    China's numbers are absolutely fabricated.

Singapore and SK were ideally situated to control this because they are technocratic and have small populations in a small area - every square inch is under camera surveillance (which Americans hate) so contact tracing was easy. They also have much more compliant citizens who quarantined immediately upon notification, which Americans still aren't doing as the body count rises. They also had equipment on hand and manufacturing facilities close by.

Something to learn from in terms of emergency prep, but not something you can replicate without the right manufacturing facilities to have hundreds of millions of testing kits readily available.

You can compare apples to oranges all you want, but when you can't see context, it shows us going backwards as a species.

Hey, you know who did take action as soon as they learned how dangerous this virus was? Senators who sold stock.

I don’t put all the blame on Trump. But, he is the president, and he did have information in January that he ignored. He downplayed the virus when he should have been acting. Do you really think the medical experts were telling him that the virus would go away like magic?

Trump screwed up. Now he’s trying to convince us that if only 100,000 or 200,000 Americans die from this, then he’s done a very good job. Really? That’s what he said. He actually said that.

Why are you listening to what he says at this point? Or ever? He's a car salesman. Look at the actions - they've been very consistent with preserving life as best you can and he has listened to Dr. Fauci on all critical matters. If all people were capable of seeing things as they are instead of snake oil marketing, we'd have a very, very peaceful and healthy society.

His attempts at downplaying the virus were to delay the stock market crash, it was very much to keep economic collapses from happening. The actions he was taking to secure ventilators and beds started at the same timeline of other developed countries. Separate the words from the actions. I would like everyone to do what I do, spend my days securing new ventilator sources for understaffed hospitals, videoconferencing with manufacturing facilities and trying to enforce quarantine instead of the pointless politics of it all and refusing to read fact based articles (which many on here outright do). Things are being done as best they can in a "democracy". Emergencies require socialism to function efficiently, and I still see plenty of Americans exercising their free rights and gathering socially, traveling, spreading etc. Maybe focus your anger on war time legislation that stops giving people so much free choice?

I don't think there is a single true statement in what you wrote here.

I’m listening to what he says because he’s the president and he’s having a press conference. I’m not aware of him taking actions in January or February other than stopping flights from China. If we had started producing and acquiring ventilators, tests, and other supplies as soon as we learned of this dangerous virus then we would be in much better shape.

Trump screwed up. Why some people want to defend this clown is beyond me.

examine the results from fastest actions in the whole world...

    virus exploded.
    stock market collapsed.
    Melania Trump is unhappy.

It turns out faster wrong actions are more detrimental.

Same reason China sent their slave doctors to Italy, all in a PR effort so the rest of the world overlooks the fact they are the worst and most awful government in the world.

... from the beginning , anyone with a remote understanding of this was projecting around 1 million total deaths including the 50-100k that China won't officially release. Slowing the curve would buy time but maybe spread out the deaths with recurring waves (much like flu season knocks out a good number of people each year).

If America does keep it to 100k, they will have done well. Even with perfect prep, there's a lot of death to be had from a virus strain and millions of people who aren't in optimal health.

Why only 50-100k death for China? since it is just the numbers leaked from your wonderful brain, why not make it 100 million? Think hard with your nuts. Your master Trump depends on you.

I guess I'm at the point that pointing fingers isn't cathartic. I'm worried. Trump pushing it out another month was not unexpected, but it was sobering. We've been hunkered down for about 16 days, and I thought I was a little stir crazy. Now, I realize I plan to isolate my family another month at least. And I am relieved that I still have the opportunity to do so (unless we have picked it up through packages, etc.)

I don't really care right now about whether things could have been done better or what country "started" this
. I have to believe our government wants to do the right thing irrespective of party. There may have been some politics involved earlier, but I don't/won't believe that it will continue in the face of dealing with this. I am sure that no matter what decisions are made, there will always be questions about whether they were correct or not.

For the time being, I will do my best not to have my family infected or infect others if it comes to that.

Kind of sick of the same back and forth, but I get this is a message board so I understand it. And whatever gets people through this period.

    See y'all tomorrow.

Lets be honest about this virus:

Because of how stealthy this virus attacks - the length of time its viable outside the body , the length of time from contraction to seeing symptoms and hosts being contagious for days before - Once this thing hit its first victim , we were in for a lot of pain. There was no containing it because in reality , people had it and didn't know and those people were passing it off exponentially.

Think of it - Host zero was contagious for 4-5 days before he knew he was sick and how many people did he infect and they before they knew .... literally thousands and in an international city of 10M , it was likely outside of China long before we knew it.

China quarantining that area was too late .... and really there was no time that would have been sufficient aside from catching Host Zero before he passed it on to anyone else. Once the cat was outa the bag , it was too late.

The only thing that would have kept it out of America is a complete and total lockdown of international borders and the immediate quarantine of any citizens returning from outside the country.

Until a few days ago , I couldn't fathom that happening in America - Could you ?!

What I'm getting at here is that it was inevitable that this would reach our shores .... we weren't going to stop it.

Now we're left with eradicating it ..... while we treat those who have contracted it.
