"Many groups now have called me and want me involved," Olajuwon, now a Rockets team ambassador, said. "With two of the groups, I'm doing my background check to see if that is a possibility. Just an association would be great.

"I'm still with the organization now. I have a contract with the Rockets, not to be in an ownership position. But if the opportunity opens itself, it will be something great."

Rockets got the broke billionaire :D

No. 69 Richard Kinder (pipelines), $7 billion
    T-No. 94 Dannine Avara (pipelines), $5.2 billion
    T-No. 94 Scott Duncan (pipelines), $5.2 billion
    T-No. 94 Milane Frantz (pipelines), $5.2 billion
    T-No. 94 Randa Williams (pipelines), $5.2 billion
No. 134 Jeffery Hildebrand (oil), $4.1 billion
No. 174 Dan Friedkin (Toyota dealerships), $3.6 billion
No. 184 Bob McNair (energy, Texans), $3.5 billion
No. 232 John Arnold (hedge funds), $2.9 billion
No. 246 Tilman Fertitta (restaurants, casinos), $2.7 billion
No. 290 George Bishop (oil & gas), $2.4 billion
No. 361 Leslie Alexander (Rockets), $1.9 billion

McIngvale told KPRC2 Monday afternoon that he is interested in putting a group together to buy the team.

"I was shocked when I heard the announcement. Les has done a great job with the Rockets over the years, so kudos to Les. I've had several people call me wanting to put a group together and try to buy the Rockets, so we're going to try to do that," McIngvale told KPRC2. "I have a long history with Houston sports and the Houston Rockets. It'd be fun to get involved and bring Clutch City back again."

"Last year, they did a great job. Great new coach. James Harden and the other guys, and the addition of Chris Paul, so things look great for the Rockets," he said. "Hopefully a new owner can come in and carry on the great tradition of the Houston Rockets."

    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/20109453/dikembe-mutombo-interested-joining-bid-houston-rockets

Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo says he wants to get into NBA ownership and is looking for partners to join a bid for the Houston Rockets.

"I'm trying to convince some people about trying to buy this team," Mutombo told Houston's Fox 26 Sports. "It's one of the best franchises right now. It's really the right time."

He said he was looking for partners who can "cut the check and they can make me be part of it." He said he has been in contact with potential buyers since Monday, when Leslie Alexander announced he would put the team up for sale after 24 years of ownership.

Mutombo told the television station that "I missed my opportunity" with the Atlanta Hawks, who retired his No. 55 in 2015. They were sold that year to a group headed by billionaire Antony Ressler.

"The Rockets are a great franchise. They have a great team. They've got great coaches, great basketball players, great staff," Mutombo told Fox 26 Sports. "Whoever is coming in, it's not like they're going to have to rebuild it."

After billionaire Les Alexander announced he would sell the Houston Rockets, several names have been suggested as potential buyers.

While many on social media had hoped Houston native Beyoncé would buy the team, Bloomberg now reports the superstar is considering investing in the Rockets. Bloomberg cited unnamed people familiar with the matter, and the report did not include what percentage of the team Beyoncé might buy.

The Rockets and Beyoncé’s representatives at Sony Music Entertainment declined to comment to Bloomberg. Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, and a spokesman for her husband, Jay-Z, did not immediately respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.

Dan Friedkin, CEO of both Houston-based Gulf States Toyota and the Friedkin Group, is the latest local billionaire to express interest in buying the Houston Rockets.

Friedkin confirmed to Fox 26 that he’s interested in exploring the purchase of the NBA team.

“(Current Rockets owner) Les Alexander has done an outstanding job building a high caliber organization with a winning tradition,” Friedkin said in a statement to Fox 26. “Over the years we have enjoyed a close partnership with the Rockets and Les through Toyota’s naming rights of the arena. As a Rockets fan and Houstonian it would be exciting and a privilege to build on the storied legacy of NBA basketball in this city.”

Friedkin’s Gulf States Toyota one of only two independent distributors of new Toyota vehicles, parts and accessories in the U.S., according to Forbes. It now serves more than 150 Toyota, Scion and Lexus dealerships throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi. According to Forbes, it’s the largest private company in Houston, based on its revenue of $8.8 billion in 2016. The Friedkin Group is its holding company, which also includes hospitality, entertainment, golf and adventure companies.

Forbes ranks Friedkin as the seventh-richest billionaire in Houston— and No. 522 in the world — with a net worth of $3.6 billion. He first ranked on Forbes’ list in 2014, after his father and Gulf States founder, Thomas Friedkin, transferred control of the company to him.

You make a great point. Dolan IS willing to spend money on the Knicks..it’s just that every single decision he makes has to feed into his enormous ego and it produces ridiculously horrible results. I’m biased because I’m from New York, but I think the Knicks being good would be good for the entire NBA...even if I’ll never root for that shitty-ass franchise. People who compare Fertitta to Dolan vaaaaaaastly underrate how disgusting Jim Dolan is. His music is garbage too

New York is a great city.
Not the bond salesman from there who also did student loans and bought a NBA team in Houston to sell for a profit later.
This whole notion of spending lots of money = championship = wrong.
How did the Spurs win all those titles? They built it that team with smart decisions not money
Same with the current champions, THE RAPTORS

In Houston there's not this giant outrage like you see on Clutchfans. The only time people here really hated the owner was Bud Adams because he moved the football team to Nashville.

There's no comparison for the Rockets to the Knicks in terms of yearly performance.

However the loyalty of the fans is higher in New York than the Rockets are in Houston. I blame this mainly on Les Alexander's successful effort to make the Rockets China's team and making people forget that Houston even exists.

China has great fans for sure, but the sheer pandering was insane. Other teams in the NBA, the Lakers for example, had plenty of fans in China without compromising that they are LOS ANGELES.

Dolan has been a complete punk to his players and fans.

However , in my opinion, the worst thing was when Les Alexander stiffed Barkley for $3 million in his final year.
The reason behind this $3 million at the time, was that the Rockets had to be UNDER THE CAP to sign SCOTTIE PIPPEN.

Barkley took the NBA MINIMUM for $1million to help the team do that .

Yes LES ALEXANDER WAS A CHEAP ASS.
    @Reeko
    @Jontro

The problem with stiffing Barkley at the back end is that Barkley became the MOST POPULAR NBA ANALYST ON TV.
And we had to hear NEGATIVE things about the Rockets FOR YEARS. And Barkley did mention the Rockets OWED HIM .

If you take away this blind homerism. If your JOB DIDN'T PAY YOU what they promised, you would be extremely ANGRY.

Hopefully someone with deep pockets like Jeff Bezos buys them instead... then again he would probably move them to Seattle.

Last I heard, his interests lie in possibly purchasing an NFL team.

What the hell are you talking about. The Raptors are owned by MLSE which in turn is owned by the two largest telecom companies in Canada. They are way more willing to spend money than cheap Tilman
