While new cases is can be skewed by number of tests and therefore be a hard barometer as to where we stand, I am encouraged by the new death graph. It's been dropping for the past few days, 57 > 49 > 46. If nothing else, you could say we are flatlining on deaths. It's going to be near impossible to stop the continued spread at this point. But if we can keep the deaths down to around 50 per day this fast on a country this size - and it should drop some more as we figure this out - then I think you're reaching a realistic best case scenario.
A nationwide shut down is a very realistic possibility and I would say more likely than not. The three biggest cities in the US currently have one.
As long as the US death toll keeps going down the less worry there will be about restricting people's movement. If we Keep the Malls, Movies, Churches, sit down restaurants and schools closed till early May; I have hope the hospitals in the Houston area won't be overwhelmed to the point people are dying because of inadequate care.
Good news! It seems we will be finally locked down! They swabbed every arrival from the UK in the last two days and it is leaked ro the press that most of them were found positives which pushed the government to finally take the plunge. We are likely to enforce China measures: whoever is repatriated will be quarantined in specific hotels (though not the kind that will fall on their heads!) In the end the cost of providing 3 meals a day for hundreds of people for 2 weeks is less than the cost of the ventilators that will need to be bought. ONE ICU bed costs 100.000 euros to make. Needless to say that as expected the UK is ****ED.
I wouldn’t read too much into the death toll going down when most cases of contamination are new. There has been a couple of times the death toll in Italy decreased only to spike again.
I wish you all the best! It's important to eliminate it from the differential diagnosis since it is so widespread right now. Take care and I will be praying to hear good news!
In France the first hospital doctor died. He was an emergency specialist from Oise one of the first place to have been badly affected. Rest in peace, hero, and you will be remembered for giving your life in your duty
I hear where you're coming from that's why I prefaced with if deaths keep going down. My personal opinion is that the infections are not going to go down as long as mass testing is being performed. In my opinion, we are past the point that the number of infections means much other than knowing how best to treat the critically ill. Our only hope is the virus getting weaker and less lethal as it mutates. The genie is out of the bottle in the US.
Read this thread and look how quickly things escalated in Italy : There is no time to waste. Even a day sooner taking measures can save thousands of lives.
I am not saying that the possibility doesn’t exist. But someone starts a rumor and it gets out and has a mind of its own. Which is the brother in laws, friends dad, coworkers friend stuff starts. Some of the rumors are hard not to believe, like the video @OmegaSupreme referenced. The person starting the rumor is ****head.
Meanwhile Turkey is blocking since March 4, 300.000 fpp2 and fpp3 masks that Italy paid more than 670.000 euros for. And the customs in the Czech Republic by mistake consficated 100.000 face masks that the Chinese Red Cross donated to Italy. They said they will return them,
I don't know if they were many from Wuhan, it looks they were from Wenzhou, but they had many chinese workers making bags and fashion items. But less than Paris. Look here in this pre coronavirus article : https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/...workers-who-assemble-designer-bags-in-tuscany More than ten per cent of Prato’s two hundred thousand legal residents are Chinese. According to Francesco Nannucci, the head of the police’s investigative unit in Prato, the city is also home to some ten thousand Chinese people who are there illegally. Prato is believed to have the second-largest Chinese population of any European city, after Paris, and it has the highest proportion of immigrants in Italy, including a large North African population. Now Prato is near Florence, the capital of Tuscany. Looking at this : Tuscany has had only 47 deaths.
man, thank u these morons rushed to the stores filling cart after cart with toilet paper, and now it’s to the point that many have to go to multiple different stores just to find a roll I know several people that are going to stores early almost every day just to see if there will be toilet and tissue paper available because idiots went and scooped up 2 year supplies
Yup. That's why also China especially and South Korea are doomed to fail to contain the virus because it is now a pandemic and we live in a globalised society. Unless they close their borders like North Korea. Only some small islands like Taiwan or the city of Singapore have hope for real containment with full controls on flowbacks. I hope everyone has understood the value of vaccines by now.
Yeah time to report this twitter user. In Iran hundreds of people have died because of this rumour. That alcohol can protect you.
