Looking like we all have to face the reality that baseball might not start on March 26th as planned if they shut down the rodeo no way they will let fans in to Mlb games, whether they would begin a season in that way or not will likely be determined soon
My guess is that we are looking at a reduced schedule with games starting in mid-late April. 150 games. Could actually favor a team with a top heavy rotation like Houston (although would more heavily favor teams with injured stars).
Kyle Tucker has turned his Spring around. Another hit today to go to .279. Started the Spring 0-16. Reddick may not be starting opening day if this continues.
As long as we are paying him his $13M, I think he starts unless he becomes a defensive liability also.
Personally, I don’t think he’s ready. Not a ton of work to look at, admittedly, but you’d really like to see more from him. It’s still early, probably too early to draw any real conclusions, but he hasn’t shown much.
Whitley didn't come to camp ready to pitch. He knew he wasn't making the opening day roster and changed his routine because of his past injuries. I'm not really concerned with what he does in spring training. He needs to go to AAA and have consistent success. Javier, Framber, Abreu, and maybe Bielak are all ahead of him.
Whitley’s best case and range of outcomes is still the same as it was 2 years ago, but the odds of each of those outcomes has shifted very negatively. Ideally he will go to Round Rock and dominate for 20 healthy starts, then get called up in August to help the bullpen, potentially even in the playoffs. He is Rule 5 eligible next offseason so while he still has a pretty long leash given his age and ceiling, he needs to have a good season if he doesn’t want his stock to completely tank.
I'm not sure how the Astros sign stealing is related to the Corona virus, but I'm waiting for them to make some kind of connection.
I wouldn't mind a shortened season. 162 games is way too long anyways and as the NBA demonstrated empty stadium doesnt mean anything if team personnel gets it. At least this should clear up some of the Verlander issues and better for McCullers in terms of innings.
