I agree with you regarding opportunities, but if we have shaky 4-5, that can trickle into over working starters, or the pen.
Pitching has been ahead of the hitting. So of course Twitter world thinks Astros hitters have been effected by all the boos.
A shaky 4-5 starters can cause microscale problems for the pen, but really isn't any issue for the pen long term. Actually, it tends to help the better relievers get rest..though losing isn't the prefered way to rest high leverage relievers.
Looks like the Astros are having issues scoring runs in spring training. It's only spring training, but given what's happened this offseason I'm a little worried it might be in their head. Still early though.
Yup, thats how it works, right? When something good happens in ST, its a positive sign. When something bad happens, it doesn't matter.
Well, they both currently have numbers that we would all be thrilled with, so you should rest assured. A great spring points directly to a great season. Unfortunately Altuve and Springer are now the worst hitters in baseball.
Is ST a determiner of how the reg season plays out? I don't really follow ST much. If it is I'm definitely worried
Nope. Sure, it feels better to see better results, but there is little-to-no correlation that it will translate into the regular season. If batters are struggling and just flat out not comfortable at the plate, I don't think that's positive at all. But for pitchers, a lot of time they are working on specific things, so results shouldn't be the end all be all.
It's the same thing for batters. If they're working on specific things then the results are heavily skewed.
Could we field a worse offensive line-up than this? D. Ferguson CF 0-1 0 0 0 .273 J. Reddick DH 0-1 0 0 0 .053 C. McCormick RF 0-1 0 0 0 .143 K. Tucker 1B 0-0 0 0 0 .259 N. Tanielu 3B 0-0 0 0 0 .158 R. Dawson LF 0-0 0 0 0 .167 J. Mayfield 2B 0-0 0 0 0 .136 D. Garneau C 0-0 0 0 0 .267 J. Pena SS 0-0 0 0 0 .118
Basically, Ks and velocity are the things to look at. Even then, it takes 2-10 times as much data from spring training to match data from regular season.
