Yeah, honestly it might be wonderful, with reduced crowds. Please note: according to the biologists I know, washing hands is >> hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer might kill bacteria, but (AFAIK) it just moves viruses around on your hands without necessarily rendering them "dead."
Never thought Sylvester Turner would pull a move like the Jaws Mayor. Must be the Bloomberg influence.
I’ll be there at the end of this month for the pizza expo. I’m going to risk contamination for that delicious pizza.
Yes, I have friends in healthfield/biologists etc - also close enough myself (but obviously not official) with the amount of science I've taken at UT Austin (like 2 classes from neurobiology degree I'm hoping to eventually finish), I basically was done, life happened and haven't gone back... Pre-med plan etc Anyway, and not that you need my affirmation, Your bio friends are absolutely correct, if you're washing hands correctly it's the best method - especially doing it with a good scrub - happy bday song 2x /20 seconds whatever is best thing then rinse - to remove everything off. I also think drying hands is good idea on a clean surface - if serious contagion. I don't have studies in front of me but - alcohol cleaners can lyse bacteria cells or get lucky on a virus but remaining protein/rna chains etc could create issues (since particles or viruses could remain). This can vary on concerns and contagion, and I'll use hand sanitizer (if that's all I have in a pinch) but washing hands is definitely the best. I mean when you're prepping for surgery Dr's scrub in, obviously a bit different but fun example.
United, but I was referring to hotel rates for that week. Most on the strip are less than $100/night.
Hand sanitizer is actually really good, things like spores (which are basically seeds) are hard to kill —like cdiff it’s a bit confusing, but viruses aren’t alive to begin with. Their basically torpedoes of DNA/RNA. The good thing is that they are pretty fragile and most things, sometimes just the outside environment destroys them.
Beware those "resort fees" that seem to rise every year. I think some are approaching the $50 a night rate now. Ugh I hate those
If you get a players card and play in the casino you stayed at, they might wave your resort fees. I say might as they didn't do it for me once since I don't think I had enough points.
Yeah, just go, I mean as long as no underlying health concerns (and if you had them you'd be concerned about flu), not traveling to out of country with bigger outbreak (and not because of getting it but because they might leverage travel bands), it's not like it's that far of a trip, it'll be fun, I expect in the next few weeks we'll know what it'll be like but I'm planning on some inconvenient shortages/stock market/businesses being hurt more so than full-on craziness. I mean don't get me wrong it's a virus you have to deal with, with flu at the same time, but it's not Ebola. Yeah, this is a good answer, I do use hand sanitizer, I just prefer handwashing first (if I have an option). And your points on spores/cdiff are important. Also.... If the person isn't washing their hands with good methods... Ie just getting hands wet with some soap and that's it... Then you're probably better off with hand sanitizer - since the alcohol can at least do something. I'm honestly glad they removed the antibacterial label on soaps
I've tried that and I can't ever seem to get nearly enough points to even make a dent. Guess you don't get a lot of points for just playing video poker while trolling for free drinks.
That's actually my go to game if I just want to sit and grab a bunch of free drinks. Video poker at the bar is the best.
Taking out China and Iran this is how the stats look from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries as of mid day today 10335 Total Cases 142 deaths (1.4% case fatality rate) 637 recovered (6.2%) 9556 Active Cases 9201 Asymptomatic/Mild Cases (96.3%) 355 Serious/Critical Cases (3.7%) The vast number of those active cases are South Korea. They are BY FAR the leaders in testing asymptomatic and mild cases. This helps to give us a different perspective on the virus. Their numbers look like this... 5186 Total Cases 34 deaths (0.7% case fatality rate) 34 recovered (0.7%) 5118 Active Cases 5091 Asymptomatic/Mild Cases (99.5%) 27 Serious/Critical Cases (0.5%) I don't know why their serious case rate is so low. It could be that it is just simply reality or it could be a lack of updated data.
Yeah, I want to see data in few weeks here... Like - are the numbers getting updated correctly, some countries aren't reporting numbers since only looking for serious cases. The other thing I don't like is depending on the true R0, like flu is 1.3, I've seen numbers on this thing from 2 to 5. And death rate ranges on flu but I think it's roughly 0.1% in developed countries, unless there is a serious strain. Also... It's something that gets treated regularly... So finally closer news to what we have been stating is coming out, I'm just optimistic it could be 0.5% - I mean 0 is better, but with no exposure to this one will change immunity. Obviously there are multiple coronaviruses but this new one complicates things.
On SKorea ... # are probably skewed because they are so fast and on top of their game. More than half of their cases occur in the last 4 days. It might take many more days to reflect how these new cases will eventually turn out.
