They have no choice but to maximize him and hope for the best. Ideally they should have traded him to NYC for a king's ransom but they got too greedy and wanted the hype and marketing $$$ for themselves. Pells are probably just gonna treat him like the Clippers treat Kawhi and hope that Zion is able to shed the pounds somehow.
Zion has tied NCAA champion, Olympic gold medalist, and NBA player of the week Carmelo Anthony for most consecutive 20 point games by a teenager. Congrats to one big boi.
he looked very good today against the lakers he is a special player whom will only get better his speed, size, athleticism and strength is clearly top notch even at the nba level
If he stays healthy and work on his jump shot he will be a beast to wreck with. He has dribbles a lot people don’t know that . He use to play the point in middle school.
I don't watch much college ball, so I don't know if he can handle switch defenses much. He has maturity and an alpha gene. AD is more versatile and taller, but he lacks the ''killer instinct". NOLA is lucky to have Zion.
He's gonna shatter records. Can you imagine how good he will be with 3 or 4 years experience? Last night was the first time I watched him play, and to put up those numbers at 75% was impressive. My wonder, is if his weight with age will slow him down. He's a beefy teenager.
Parting ways with Stan Van Gundy after just one season is not the biggest problem facing the New Orleans Pelicans. They have been unable to put together the right elements to make rising star Zion Williamson and his family happy, and multiple sources have told The Athletic that certain family members want Williamson on another team. Zion Williamson's Family Members Want To See Him On Another Team Certain family members of Zion Williamson want to see him on another team, sources tell The Athletic. The New Orleans Pelicans have missed the playoffs in each of Williamson's first two seasons in the NBA and the team will have a third head coach three years. Sources from around the league have "pointed to the Pelicans as a heap of dysfunction." Williamson's family has expressed thinly veiled unhappiness with the Pelicans and there are questions whether those have become his own. Williamson's family members voiced displeasure with Stan Van Gundy, who they thought was too rigid and demanding as head coach. They also felt like the organization did not live up to the standard for a star like Williamson. Williamson remains focused on basketball and helping the Pelicans win next season. Williamson was also irritated by the decision to trade J.J. Redick.
It's funny when a family starts drama, "expressing" their frustrations and concerns on how a team is building around a player when said player: 1. Only just finished his 2nd season in the NBA 2. Missed most of his 1st season due to injury 3. Missed the end of his 2nd season due to injury, which by the way, torpedoed their promising chance to get into the playoffs this year Like...how about you chill and leave the basketball operations to someone more competent? One thing I don't like about the youth of today is how impatient and short-sighted they are. Apparently that behavior can spread to their families too.
The good thing for NOLA is they have a **** ton of draft picks right now. If they want to show Zion that they're serious, they should cash those all in and get some help ASAP.
Well I dunno if it's really the player's fault as much as it is the media's. They're so desperate to break stories like this that they'll overblow passing comments and turn them into a whole issue. Like sometimes during a night out I'll rag on my boss a bit or say that work sucks but it doesn't mean I wanna quit or start up drama. The problem is, when you're famous, people will take every little thing you say and spin it for clicks. Zion for the most part seems like a good, professional guy so I'm not taking anything against him yet.
This could very well be the case but where there's smoke there's fire. Firing SVG after just one season seemed a bit too irrational for a GM like David Griffin, especially when Griffin brought SVG in to add discipline and rigidity to the culture. IIRC, they were still in the playoff hunt and then Zion missed the last 6 games that basically ended that pursuit.
A lot of the young players today dont want to take the time to learn and sacrifice in order to create a winning franchise. They just want to come in and play for a title and make a name. Very few players are ready from year 1 to do that (there have only been about 10 in league history). They all want the fame but they dont want to put in the work and time to get it. Oh well, that's NOLAs problem to deal with..
