    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/20/us/politics/russian-interference-trump-democrats.html

I know the reaction here after 5 years of Trump President hell is to shrug, be beaten down and say "of course he's got Putin in his corner, what are you goign to do? Elections have consequences!" or some stupid **** like that.

But **** that, this is not normal. Rampant corruption is not normal. It is not who we are, it is not what we deserve, it has nothing to do with election consequences.

This should and will be used against him.

It will be but his base will either not believe it or simply not give a ****. The only chance we have is unprecedented turnout in swing states.

I don't really care to much about his base.

I gain a certain comfort in being able to speak the truth about how dangerous, corrupt, and beholden to foreign influence Donald J Trump is.

Also, it's something that clearly enrages him personally and he would like to erase. That alone pushed me over the Rubicon of posting in an existing thread vs. [Official] thread starting.

But I won't forget and neither should any of us.

The President really is George Washington's nightmare, corrupt venal and rotten to his insecure core.

It's worth remembering simply because he doesn't want you to.

Sadly, Republicans just don’t care about Russia interfering in our elections if it benefits them. Sad and disgusting.

This is correct, but it goes further

But they actually don't even care about elections or democracy at all.

They want an autocratic state with Democratic trappings. Like Russia, China, Turkey, Venezuela, etc

That's unamerican as hell. It's who they are though.

    treason
    noun

    trea·son | \ ˈtrē-zᵊn \
    Definition of treason

1: the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family
2: the betrayal of a trust : TREACHERY

    18 U.S. Code § 2381.Treason
    prev | next
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

    Crimes Related to Treason
Treason is related and similar to several crimes. More than one criminal statute can apply to the same conduct, meaning that something falling short of treason may constitute another offense.

Misprision of Treason. This crime involves someone knowing a person has committed an act of treason, failing to report it to a proper authority, and taking some action to conceal it. (For a detailed discussion of a related topic, see Misprision of Felony.)

Espionage. Espionage is obtaining classified information pertaining to national defense for use by a foreign nation. If the defendant aids a U.S. ally, treason can’t be the charge, but espionage can. For instance, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were charged with espionage rather than treason for trying to pass atomic secrets to the Soviet Union during World War II.

Seditious Conspiracy. This offense consists of conspiring to overthrow or destroy the government by force. Unlike treason, seditious conspiracy doesn’t require that the defendant owe allegiance to the United States. (For more on conspiracy generally, see Conspiracy: Laws and Penalties.)

Terrorism. One of the differences between treason and terrorism is that terrorism statutes apply to any kind of foreign national and don’t ever require that the U.S. be at war. (There are, however, similarities between treason and terrorism-related offenses—for instance, statutes criminalize providing material support to and harboring terrorists, among other actions.) To learn more, see Terrorist Threats.

Conspiracy to Levy War. This precursor to treason doesn’t require that people be assembled and ready to use force.

If russia is attacking our democratic elections , sto again to benefit the sitting president, surely America can count on the checks and balances of our Senate to intervene and protect us? Well, no...

Can Republicans just try putting America first and seeing how it feels. Honestly, they could use it to show how tough they are and how weak the Dems are. They could lie about how Obama did nothing to check Russian interference, corruption and stuff and show how they will protect America.

It isn't true but it would at least put our nation first. What's sad are people that don't care about protecting our nation.

    Never forget...

All the Trump associates convicted or sentenced in the Mueller investigation

Longtime Trump associate Roger Stone was sentenced to 4o months in prison for crimes that include obstruction of justice, lying to Congress and witness tampering.

Why it matters: Stone is the seventh person to be convicted and sentenced for crimes unearthed by former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. His case has been at the heart of ongoing tensions between President Trump and his Justice Department.

The big picture: Suspected criminal activity among Trump associates extends beyond Mueller’s Russia probe. Federal prosecutors are investigating the president's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani's personal business dealings in Ukraine.

    Sentenced:

Who's running back? The Intelligence agencies of the United States of America? This wasn't a Democratic initiative. This was a discovery by the agencies assigned to protect our nation from foreign adversaries. Why would they be desperate?

Who is? The intelligence agencies? What reeks of desperation is the GOP and their desperate efforts to cling onto power at all costs.
