Putin... like Soleimani and the Shiites, want the US out of Iraq, Syria, and Kuwait more than anything. Soleimani was made a martyr and the move pushed Iraqi parliament to expel the US. Did Putin orchestrate, and influence the killing of Soleimani... probably not...seems risky. In the end does it serve his interest though... heck yeah indirectly. Also Putin has a proxy in Syria with Assad. It could be that he is working Iranian officials to also install proxies at the highest levels there too, and Soleimani was in the way of that leadership change. So that could another theory why Putin could have influenced the assassination. It would probably make the most sense of all the theories as to why the hell did he do it. Putin’s plan is actually pretty easy to understand. Make the US an unreliable world power to the point where countries abandon us and decide to rely on Russia for military security backing... all the while reaping the benefits of controlling the fossil fuel industry and energy of the world... which brings their economy up to where they would like it to be.
@dobro1229 already answered this. Russia cares more about the US having chaos and division than they do about saving an Iranian general. Anything that makes it harder for the US and Iran to have deals like the one that existed prior to Trump is good for Russia. The latest actions help with that direction.
