Have you ever seen someone that can get to rim with this kind of speed/athleticism like westbrook?

This is amazing to watch, isn't it? Defenders know Russ can't shoot, so they back off 5 feet and he is still getting by them with ease. In some instances, the defenders get caught guessing which way Russ is going to go, leading to some comical results (read: statue of liberty, frozen).

We are already seeing much better team defense, and if this team tells after the remaining 28 games, watch out.

 

People tend to remember players later in their careers and it skews their opinion. One person in this thread talked about Drexler just dumping the ball to Hakeem. They forget about Portland Drexler. He was slower to start than Westbrook but once Clyde got going, nobody was stopping that train.

It is not that Westbrook is a super star. Austin Rivers is just really,really bad.

Austin rivers has toned down to the pouting in front of refs, which is a positive step.

Brodie reminds me of 76ers' Barkley. Both have that physicality, fiery personality and explosive athleticism with absolute disregard for human life or rim. The way these two grab rebounds and go coast to coast for dunks, lay-ups etc. is just phenomenal.

 

Modern day equivalent is probably Zion.

Rockets can sign a lessor version but plays much better defense and shoot better 3ball.

The point being you don't see raw athleticism like Westbrooks elsewhere in the NBA. You might in other sports, like football. You can play basketball if you aren't the quickest, strongest, etc. Hard to play football, at some positions, if you aren't. I would imagine to see someone charge the basket like Westbrook does, you'd probably need to watch some NFL pickup games.

 

He's not as quick as Westbrook. Never was. Pretty much nobody ever was.
