Westbrook to Harden: "look at me! I'm the captain now"

If you never double Westbrook or Harden and sticking to the corners, they would go off for 80 between the 2 of them via layup drills. The way to beat this type of offense is figure who is hot and cold game by game and let them shoot. It can't be the same strategy every game.

 

As Morey has said many times, the only shots more efficient than the 3 are layup/dunks and free throws. Giving a layup line to two of the best drivers in the NBA is a recipe for disaster, because often it will be and ones.

That’s a generality based on likely percentages, etc.

We can be more specific for a specific game - Eg last night. The Rockets were on fire from 3. Partially because they were wide open. At that point l, one on one defense for Harden/Westbrook Is better than the wide open threes they were given up. They basically shot the equivalent of 70% on twos from the three point line.

 

Despite all his flaws, Westbrook never has motivational issues unlike Harden. He's the best leader we can get from this roster. Being the best scorer does not mean you have to be the captain.

 

Russ usually beats those single coverages. And when Harden isnt in a slump, he'd torch them too.

 

James isn’t a leader. He’s a great player, but he’s proven time after time that he’s just not a leader. He doesn’t have a killer instinct, he doesn’t go 100 percent all the time, he’s a guy with an amazing scoring ability but not tremendous natural leadership instincts. There’s nothing wrong with that either. They just need someone who has them.

 

We might get overly dependent on his electric rim play.

 

Westbrook can thank Harden for his streak. It's not coincidence he's gone on that big scoring streak since the other teams have constantly starting double teaming Harden from half court. Westbrook has far more time and space to do whatever he wants.

 

lol Harden is washed. You guys keep defending him, but Giannis gets double-teamed a lot. You don't think there's defenses set to stop Kawhi and Bron? Harden without Russ looks miserable. Last year, he was winning games with Rivers being the 2nd best player on the team.

Kind of obvious Harden is physically injured. Then we took away a big man that helped him get open. What did y'all expect to happen? If westbrook is our captain then we are F'ed. He's dumber than bricks when emotions get the best of him. Also if he's captain make him play back to backs and let Harden fully recover.
