There was a Ringer or The Athletic article that mentioned that even though the Rockets got small, a lot of Rockets players are stocky and can hold their position well. I grabbed some height and weight data from NBA.com and filtered out any player playing less than 20 games this season (keeps tall scrubs our injured players out).

The numbers indicate that Houston is definitely one of the shortest teams (LAC, BOS, and GSW have shorter players enter a game this season on average) and near the bottom in total weight as well (not a real metric to indicate ability to be pushed around).

Also, the Clipps are, on average, throwing out the shortest and lightest guys out there. (Their height to weight ratio puts them back in the middle of the pack).

Using something like BMI ratios as a "Stocky" measurement, throws the Rockets into the top 10 (Half the league is overweight by the way) with MIL and UTA a bit ahead of us.

It would be better to filter it down to starters, but that data isn't as easy to grab. The Pocket Rockets may have some extra trouble playing the teams near the top like MIL and UTA, which we will get to test out soon. Rockets should be able to push PHX around and win the rebounding battle tonight - if they kept their legs from a back-to-back.

They are the Houston Tuckers. Not the Houston Zions.

Shouldn't we comparing standing reach rather than height? Having a bigger head or longer neck does not allow you play better defense.

From the eye test, Harden is the best post defender in the league. He almost like the Chuck Wagon down there.

Agreed - I bet we would do a bit better there, but commentators will still point at height before reach.

Then shouldn't we push the idea that these metrics are antiquated instead of using the same measuring stick?

No wonder the team could not score to save their souls.

    Change team name I think.

    6'3 Russ Westbrook - 6'8
    6'3 Ben McLemore - 6'8
    6'6 Danuel House - 6'8
    6'3 Eric Gordon - 6'9
    6'5 James Harden - 6'11
    6'5 PJ Tucker - 7'0
    7'0 Isaiah Hartenstein - 7'2
    6'7 Robert Covington - 7'2
    7'0 Tyson Chandler - 7'3
    6'9 Bruno Caboclo- 7'7

    Buyout options:

    6'8 Moe Harkless - 7'2
    6'9 Jonah Bolden - 7'3
    6'6 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist- 7'0

Girth and wingspan to offset height.

Lateral quickness and good cardio. Gets tougher with taller guys. For the guards position, Russ and Harden are decent in height.

Used to only see THICC to describe females. This board normalized it on dudes. :D
