Reasons why this trade is good

    1) Roco was our sought after prize. We got him. SF with defense was our biggest need and we have it now. His 3pointer has been good in the past. He's not old and is on a good contract. He is our Ariza replacement and we were pretty good when we had him. We will need him more against Lebron/Kawhi/George than we'd need Capela against the Centers of the West.
    2) This takes wear and tear off of Tucker.
    3) We weren't going to keep Capela. At one point I thought we could trade him for another C but it looks like we're embracing small ball so getting another top of the the line C isn't necessary. We will find another C and/or this could open up some time for Hartenstein (though I don't think Harty plays a lot). A serviceable C that can defend and has good hands would help a bit and those are supposedly easier to come by then a great 3 and D SF.
    4) We prevented GSW from getting Roco. If you believe they really wanted him, then this was a big deal. F them.
    5) I think the fact that we made this trade early is a good sign. It kept us from losing Roco and it freed us up to look at possible smaller trades and/or buyouts.
6)Luxury Tax Savings! But seriously, this is a concern for our owner (and probably most owners). Now that we have it this might increase our ability to make other trades or acquisitions. As Bima said, we have wiggle room, up to $12 or $13 mill. I don't think we're going over the luxury tax, but having that room around this time is a big deal.
    7) Jordan Bell. Remember when he was in the draft, I/we wanted him, and then GSW gave some team a bag of peanuts to swoop in and get him? I was so pissed. He played well for them for one year (look it up) and even started some games. He's a good bench PF and could play C for us. If we get his GSW production (I know it's a small sample size) then this trade could look really good. He had a 2-1 assist/to ratio, could get steals and blocks, and has good rebounding numbers. Remember - Morey has uncovered gems in the past.
    8) If GSW becomes a force again next year, then Clint really wasn't going to help us against them. Plus, now GSW may be forced to get Igoudala. He was good 2 years ago and is also an ass. Perfect fit for them!
    9) This give D'Antoni a chance to embrace his small-ball philosophy. I'm glad he gets this shot, as I think his lame duck status is pretty shtty for him.
    10) More steals and fewer turnovers are more important to our small-ball than rebounds. We're giving up rebounds to embrace fewer TOs and more steals. It could work out well.
    11) I hated giving up a first round pick but I think the second round pick mitigates this a bit. If that pick can be used for a pretty good C then we're fine.

Look, I didn't want to trade Clint but it became apparent that he was going to be traded. Once you accept that then it's looking at what's the best we can get for him. And we did pretty well.

I agree but did you really have to make a new thread? We dont need all the posters making a new thread just for their own take on this trade.

I agree with your post...however I think Capela is good enough, that we should have been able to get Covington even up for him. Certainly not give up a first round pick!

His injured heel came into play. I just hope that Jordan Bell will give us some good minutes at the 4 spot. There is no doubt that we need a mobile true center who can shoot and defend. Unfortunately, they don’t grow on trees.

Love it! I def value an elite wing defender over a decent rim protector. I also think the need for a big man is completely overstated. People are convinced that’s our biggest hole at this point. But lets say we do find a decent CC replacement with a Baynes or Dedmon, does that mean our team is complete and ready to compete for a ring? Probably. Will people still find something to complain about? Absolutely.

Can someone give info about Capela and plantar fasciitis? Is that a rumor or confirmed?

Also, can someone post the Pelton article on ESPN that rates the trade? Thanks.

LOL @ people thinking Jordan bell is a solution to any of our problems. Some of you guys are cult followers of Morey.

The only thing it does is make PJ expendable and we won't resign him.......

If they can get Richaun Holmes then I would be happy with the trade overall. Its cute How Morey gets these assets but they rarely playout

There is nothing good about giving up a 1st rounder for lux tax savings. That part of the trade is not defendable.
