This was fine...6.5/10 probably. Videogame-y as hell. Didn't care about the characters/story at all. Wasn't moved when they played sad/uplifting music. Worth watching but don't expect some war classic.
4.5/5 Cinematography, sound, acting were all superb Story was good. Probably needed a more climactic ending. I enjoyed it.
This was pretty great. It seemed to have elements of every war movie I’ve ever seen wrapped up in it. A couple surreal Apocalypse Now moments, great trench footage like Paths of Glory, a Saving Private Ryan narrative thing. The experience is immersion into the environment, rather than focus on any particular themes or character. So, the cinematography is the real star here. Its a lot of vignettes woven around a basic plot line. Some are great, a couple I could do without, but it always looks amazing. And I gotta say, it ain’t better than Dunkirk. Dunkirk is a perfect movie.
A solid achievement in filmmaking and an okay movie. For me I felt no real connection to the characters or the story and Honestly could not imagine watching it again.
ok I watched this. did anyone else notice that the scenes because of the camera panning so often that it seemed like you were often watching movie scenes? If I were to compare it to a movie like saving private ryan I don't get that feeling watching that. I dunno it threw me off a few times.
haven't watched the film, two criticisms I've heard are that the camera tricks are distracting, and that the plot contrivances are absurd
I want to see it but will it be to film as “All Quiet on the Western Front” was to literature? Well, no, it couldn’t be, I suppose.
So, I finally watched this, as the trailer was great and made me want to see it...Too bad it didn't live up to the hype IMHO...I was left wanting more, more story, more action, more of the sequence that hyped this movie...I appreciate the continuance aspect of it, cinematography, acting, but I can't see me wanting to see this again...6.5/10
Just saw it last night. Awesome film, needing a large screen for the experience... similar excellence in film-making as The Reverent. At slightly less than 2 hours you will be exhausted watching the film.
1917 and Parasite are the frontrunners right now. My fav scene in 1917 was probably in the trailer when the dude is running and bumping into the other soldiers trying to send that letter. It's not better than Jarhead that's for sure.
I really enjoyed this movie. The one shot thing I was worried would be distracting because I would be constantly looking for where the "secret cuts" were. But it really wasn't distracting. I do wish they hadn't put the big dash across the front line in all the trailers since that really is kind of the big finish of the movie. Kind of spoiled the most amazing sequence.
