You're right... they're going to base everything on how a player "looks", what his girlfriend or wife looks like, how he looks in a uniform, his batting stance, and his feet/hand size.
Totally agree but I also fear whatever is happening with Crane and his son and running the team right now. It scares me that we could fall into one of those owner knows all death traps.
Everything observable about Crane suggests that he is very good at hiring. He gets my benefit of the doubt.
Don't overthink it Jim. You don't need a "hard ass" now because the players "ran over" or "took advantage" of Hinch
Astros should have embraced the cheating thing and give the finger to the rest of baseball. Keep AJ and Luhnow until their suspensions are up. Bring in Beltran and sign Pete Rose on as a special adviser. We need to figure out better ways to cheat so we're not caught.
Do you honestly think this is the best route? I’m worried that Crane feels he needs a hard nosed (Showalter whom I don’t want) guy at Manager because of what happened. I don’t feel it’s the case. I think the boys will be on their best behavior and laser focused this season.
In my opinion, it is. Espada has been a bench coach for a long time and interviewed for managerial openings after the last two seasons. He also has relationships already built with the players. Putila has been with the Astros since 2011 and worked in the front office under Lunhow. He likely believes in the Astros’ analytical approach and has been heavily involved on the player development side. Continuity is important, and that’s the route I would take in the Astros’ position. Give each of them a one-year trial run and, then, reevaluate.
