If we're talking specifically advice to give a son or daughter about significant others, aside from the obvious things of course:

    1) Don't trust someone that makes no effort to meet your friends (selfish behavior)
    2) Don't trust someone that's willing to nitpick and put you down over minor things (control freak)
    3) Don't trust someone that can't give you a compliment, but is quick to compliment herself (arrogance and self-centered)

I have several friends that decided to settle for women who demonstrate all of these qualities, and they live miserable lives where they basically have to walk on eggshells in their own homes.

I got 3 rules...never get less than 10 hours of sleep...never play poker with a man whose first name is also the name of a city...and never date a girl with a tattoo of a dagger anywhere on her body. You live by those 3 rules and the rest is cream cheese.

I used to get that when I was younger. Looking back, I'm fairly sure every person I heard it from would have traded "plans" with me on the spot.

    Amen on this one, brother.

This isn’t a natural gas compressor station. You won’t need to make a fast getaway due to a disaster. No need to back it in. Also, you made me wait in my car for four minutes while you parked.

    Here's one:

A boss (or any companyman) saying something like, "I don't want people who are only here for the money."

    Why? Because

    1. This is a red herring; no one works only for the money. Money, location, working conditions, work type, work/life balance, etc are all considered. I will not take a job that requires a 4 hour commute each way even if it pays me more money, because I value my family time too much. So in the strictest sense, working at a place only for the money isn't a thing that anyone does.

    2. Bosses / employers who try to shame you for wanting the most $$$ you can get are hypocrites, as they themselves want the most money they can get.

    3. While no one works at a place for the sole reason of it being the most money they can get, it is (usually) the primary reason for working at a place - as well it should be! We work to support our non-working lives, and that means we work to get money! Bosses who try to distract from this fact are either deliberately trying to screw you or are so far down in corporate-speak hell that they no longer know how to speak or think like a human anymore.
