The GF wants to learn to play the piano as a New Years resolution so I’m looking into getting her a keyboard for Christmas. I know absolutely nothing about them just that there are endless options. Can someone recommend a good starting keyboard under a couple hundred bucks? Or any advice period ?

If she really wants to play piano, as opposed to just general keyboards, weighted keys and touch sensitivity are things you really want.

I'm not sure any dont have it, but headphone jack is a must. I have a real piano that I cant use about 90% of the time because it disturbs whatever anybody else is doing around me and I dont want people to be tortured by me playing like a 5 year old child.

To be clear "keyboards" and "digital piano" seem like the same thing but are made for ever so slightly different audiences. "Keyboards" are laid out like a piano but arent specifically trying to emulate one, and so arent great if you want to sit at an actual piano and just start playing well based on your practice on your electronic substitute.

great insight, was literally just reading about this. Looks like the Casio Privia series would be my best bet for that and affordability.
