How the mighty potential first 400M man has fallen in 2 years. Daniella Correa, what have you done to the man!!! You have turned ur man into kicker to getting rid of Reddick and his bad contract. Haha Kidding aside, I would trade Correa/Reddick for Castillo. Not sure if I want to do the trade if we have to throw Abreu or Javier. Abreu could be our future closer or middle of the rotation SP in 2 years. Dude is electric with better control than Josh James.
Last year Correa hit 21 homers and 59 rbi in only 75 games at age 24 and played an exceptional shortstop. He has a tremendous amount of upside and only injuries have kept him from being a top 5 non pitcher in baseball. He also plays well into what the Reds offensively can do at home. The Reds get him for two seasons if they trade for him. Castillo is the same age as Correa but has two extra years of control. He had an underrated season last year, but he still had a FIP of of 3.7 and has a career FIP of 4. So his actual production has been good but not great. The Reds may feel they would be moving him at his highest trade value. What is exciting for the Astros, is his upside....... but the Reds get the same with Correa. There may be some legs to this rumor because the Reds tried hard to sign Gregorious to play SS for them and missed out. I also think for the Reds to take Reddick, the Astros would either eat part of his contract one move out another piece. Getting Castillo would be exciting for the Astros because they would have the makings of a rotation for at least the next few seasons..... Verlander and Greinke are under contract for two more years and are both in the top 15 starters in the league........ Castillo would be under control for 4 years.... Urquidy for 6 years.... McCullers for 2 years.... and there is still Whitley in the wings as well..... I also am bullish of Christian Javier personally because his pitches are a perfect combination. The only reason he isn't a bigger deal is that he doesn't throw 98 mph.
Astros' weakness in the playoffs was always the bat. If we swap Cole with Rendon, I'll be more than happy.
Remember Peter Gammons is out of the loop a little bit. He did not get that information from the Astros..... he could have gotten it from Dick Williams (who he has some what of a relationship with) and Boras. Often Boras leaks trade negotiations to attempt to drive the price up. Castillo and Rendon for Cole, Correa and Reddick isn't a bad trade off for the Astros because they were never going to be in a position to approach 335 million. Rendon is an upgrade over Correa..... he is healthy, wants to be an Astro, has hit in the post season and is just a better player. Castillo isn't as good as Cole but he still has upside and should be a #2 type pitcher. moving Reddick is a big win for the Astros.
People are sleeping on Urquidy. He had a lower FIP than Castillo last year, he strikes out a batter an inning and doesn't walk batters. He has the makings of being a #2-3 starter with 5-6 years of team control. That is HUGE for a team like the Astros trying to extend their window.
If we were in on Rendon, a rumor to which I'm dubious of, we would likely have to dump Correa, Brantley and Reddick. Correa for Castillo and financial flexibility is something I'm OK with. A lot of us floated that idea late last season. His level of performance when healthy is undeniable, but he's one of the guys that just seems to have the injury gene.
How the hell they gonna afford $30M+ for Rendon. Still need a starter or three Still need a catcher or two Still need a reliever or three Gerrit Cole Robinson Chirinos Will Harris Martín Maldonado Collin McHugh Wade Miley Héctor Rondón Aaron Sanchez Joe Smith
Would be utterly shocked if Houston signed Rendon, but trading Correa/Reddick for Castillo then signing Rendon and adding a viable catcher would make Houston a top 15 all time talented roster.
I'm asking about it. All I can think is that Crane had set a budget that included trying to sign Cole for 200 million..... and having missed out on Cole, still has that money available for the right player. It is possible that no one has stepped up and offered a massive contract to Rendon, and couple that with his interest in playing for Houston.... so both sides are trying to see if they can make it work. Remember, the Astros are going to shed nearly 65 million in payroll in two season with Greinke and Verlander. If they get Castillo they potentially have someone at the top of the rotation locked up. They also have Urquidy and we don't know how they feel about some of their arms in the minors as well. It sounds a little far fetched, but it is possible that they have another young pitcher coming in a deal for someone else. It is all a puzzle.
Thought so about Framber Valdez the year before as well besides the walks. Urquidy wasn't all that great in the minors either.
Trade: Reddick ($13.5 million) Gone: Cole ($13.5 million) Smith ($8.0 million) Osuna ($6.5 million) McHugh ($5.8 million) Chirinos ($5.8 million) Rondon ($5.5 million) Miley ($4.5 million) Marisnick ($2.2 million) That is $63,000,000 in salary shed. There is also the possibility that they move Brantley for a player ($16 million) and the Diamondbacks are paying part of Greinke's deal..... Right now the Astros have 190 million in salaries (including arbitration eligible players). Trading Reddick and Correa opens up roughly 22 million and Luis Castillo will get very little this season as he is pre-arbitration. So it is possible, if Crane is resigned to going over the tax.
