Keep making overreaching statements based on only recent playoff sample sizes... by that logic, the Yankees rotation is in just as much disarray, with no pitchers able to go past 7. Also by that logic, Urquidy is set to dominate profusely.

Also one GM and coaching staff has proven to be able to find MLB talent and make them better.

The Yankees have always been about spending a bunch of money to get Championships. We’ll see if it works this time.

Astros are a victim of their own success in turning around pitchers’ careers.

Good for Cole. He pitched fabulous for the Astros. We made it to another World Series for the 3rd time in franchise history.

It was a great 2 years. Baseball happens, and the Nationals were red hot at the right time.

I’m assuming the networks are thrilled that this version of the Yankees are the good guys, against those villainous Astros who use metrics and have been tried in public opinion regarding allegations not yet proven.

Yankees have again outspent the rest of the MLB, and have probably become the number one team favored to win the World Series.

That is an absurd contract, no insane is a better description. Cole had two great years. That does not mean he will have nine more just like them. Life happens. There are likely tweaks, twists, and turns ahead. I am glad the Astros didn't offer that. On the other hand, our upcoming rotation doesn't look that impressive. We need some additions.

Cole - Verlander = pretty much a wash
Greinke - Tanaka = edge to Greinke
LMJ - Severino = both injured studs
Urquidy- Paxton = edge to Paxton no doubt but Paxton wasn’t as good last as year as he was for Mariners
    Who cares about 5th guy.
I’d say the rotations are more closer to even now. It was a clear advantage last year for Astros and this year maybe a slight advantage for Yanks

Imagine if Cole was World Series MVP. He probaly would of gotten even more. No hating on getting made in baseball for Cole, but giving pitchers that many years on a contract is good for the Astros. I hope we weren't the mystery team because this has the potential of a Bobby Bonilla contract that the Mets maybe still paying him. Yanks has the money, or gonads to pay a steep price. This could of bankrupt the Stros or set the franchise back decades.

Assuming it's a 3% agent commission fee, Scott Boras would rank around 7th in average player salary next year just from the deals for Strasburg, Cole and Rendon (Cole, $36 AAV; Strasburg $35AAV; Rendon maybe ~$30 AAV ? ) alone

except the Yankees would have brought Cole in the 7th inning of game 7. Cole is younger and more dominant than Verlander thus can play the closer role in the playoffs whenever necessary.

While it is risky to sign pitchers for that many years, Yankees aren't expecting 9 years of great play. Basically, if Yankees get three Houston like seasons, three Pittsburgh like seasons, and three crappy seasons out of Cole, deal will be worth it.

Let them bring him in in the 7th now. That’s their problem if they blow his arm up. They gotta pay him regardless.
Cole may have more dominant stuff (Verlander is no slouch) but JV is a better pitcher and also has the Astros pitching staff to help.
Yanks pitching staff doesn’t have the same track record as Strom

Would accept this better if he had went "home". Now he's on the opposite coast.

Hope he regresses and Lance stays healthy.

At that price the Astros never had a chance and the Angels dodged a huge bullet. Astros also get a draft pick.

Angels can probably sign a solid SP like Keuchel plus fill their holes at 1B, 3B, and RF all for less than what Cole will make.

Well at least the Yankees lost Didi, a player a lot of Yankee fans think is the heart of the team.
