I'm not big on Adam Hill at all. From my perspective the Brewers did very well here. They will have Omar for three seasons.

FWIW a lot of negative stuff was floated about his handling of pitchers and there were critiques of his defense as well. I think that is likely what hurt his trade value. It also is suspicious that the M's were so hot to trade him.

The asking price at the deadline last year for him was rather high when the Astros reached out about getting him.

Pettite should no longer be allowed in Texas.

Unless he's giving Gerrit a primer in how to execute infidelity in NY... I don't think Andy being at those meetings helps anything.

Pettite is actually not a great "spokesman".

I read a lot about Narvaez. Not a fan at all. Bad defense all around (handling pitchers, receiving, fielding, framing, throwing), and his rise in offensive numbers was largely due to more at bats and a league-wide rise in homers. His isolated power (SLG - BA) went up very little. Add in the fact that SEA was so desperate to trade him. Plus it was reported to be VERY unlikely they'd flip him in-division.

What options are still out there? I know McCann (avoided arbitration) may be shopped, but it's possible the Sox keep him for Giolito from what I've heard.

It’s possible the Marisnick trade will offset the prospect cost of dumping Reddick. Either way, these types of moves (similar to trading Tyler White, JD Davis, and others) have kept Houstons 2nd and 3rd tier prospect depth among the league’s best. Those trades aren’t likely to yield cornerstone players, but they keep a contender in position to be able to make deadline trades without completely decimating the farm system, and there’s always the possibility of unearthing a gem (like with Yordan).

Contreras would be an excellent option, would be curious about the player/prospect cost.

Well, that guy just signed a 100-year extension, so we're good.

Castro, Chirinos, and Maldonado look like the only 3 legit starting catchers available in free agency.

Yep. Not keen on Castro or Maldo as full time starters. Chirinos has a ton of mileage on his body and may not have much left in him. I honestly think this may be his last year, he's getting quite worn down.

Why would you think that? Last year was his second best offensive season (2018 was his best). Prior to 2018, his highest number of games played was 93. He has less wear on him than most catchers in their mid 30s.

Chirinos seemed to wear down as the season progressed. Too lazy to look it up, but I believe his offensive production was much lower in the 2nd half than it was in Apr-May.

I definitely like Castro the best out of those 3 options. I really liked Narvaez and Avila, especially for the expected cost. Narvaez turned out to be a little more expensive prospect-wise, but I think Avila was a great value at $4.5M/1yr.

Castro for something like $12M/2yrs would be good. Trading for Contreras would be awesome but I don’t see how Houston can come up with the prospects. Maybe a package of Toro, Abreu, and Nova would be enough.
