The Torture Report Amazon film with Adam Driver, Annette Bening and a few other people in smaller roles. It details the Senate investigation into Enhanced Interrogation post 9/11. I don't know how to rate it on a traditional scale so I'll just say that I recommend it. It's very illuminating though not entertaining in a traditional sense. I was captivated by it.
don't know if you've seen the piece in the NYT today. pretty depressing stuff. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/04/...tion=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage
This is probably an IDIOT situation really, but yeah that's not a fun article to read. The film does a good job going into this stuff without being TOO depressing, but DAMN man it's rough stuff.
Knives Out 8/10 Thought it was a fun movie. Really liked Daniel Craig’s acting/character. Would recommend.
I honor your reaction, but me and some friends saw it tonight, and we liked it better than that. (Maybe we're just older -- I don't know.) I'd give it 7.5/10. I didn't think the acting was over the top -- everyone nailed their part, including lots of minor characters, even including Miles' son Peter and his wife. They definitely wrung some drama out of it, but if you read about the actual story, they stuck amazingly close to what really happened and who was doing what. That's pretty rare for a historical hollywood pic like this. Christian Bale just owns the whole film, and I personally loved a lot of the racing scenes (even though I'm not even into racing, so take that for what it's worth... maybe an indictment.)
Ready or Not - 7-10 Pretty stupid black comedy movie, but still fun. Got 80% on RT in both critic & audience scores.
Morey says he'll just wait to see the movie from China about how they subvert human rights and torture people. I told him he might be waiting a really long time. Back to the topic.
Saw and enjoyed it, this weekend. Didn't expect much, given the trailer. The Rotten Tomatoes audience score was 90+, so I gave it shot. i think that the storyline reminded me most of an Agatha Christie novel.
Marriage Story This is one of those movies that is open to interpretation depending on the viewer. Everyone will see it for something different. I see it as a boring pointless movie that doesn't need to exist. Its a movie about divorce and the divorce happens, like that's it. There's not big moment its dull and plodding. I don't want to say it sucked because Adam Driver is in it and he's very talented but this was not a good use of his skills. Once Scarlet Johansson's looks started to fade I now realize she has no talent other than how to convey confusion, that's about all she does well, she added nothing to this movie. I heard all the Oscar buzz about this movie and after watching it I'm convinced the academy doesn't watch any of these movies and goes by reviews and probably read the reviews of some lonely women that went through bad divorces so this movie resonated with them. Very lame and honestly there's no reason to watch this movie 2/10
Deeply Rooted (Documentary) 10/10 I have watched this 4 times. Amazing story!!! It is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.
Confession Killer Henry Lee Lucas* Super interesting I had forgotten so much about this story -- the Texas Rangers and the main Sheriff were corrupt AF. 8/10 *Not actually a movie (Netflix)
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Redbox) 6/10 I'm surprised at the high ratings for this. I expected a better script and more dark humor for a Tarantino movie. I found it a bit boring and slow except for a couple scenes.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -- I really enjoyed it Brad Pitt steals the show. It has the feel of Inglorious Basterds or Django... 8.2/10
