I haven't followed the race too closely and don't know much about Yang's policy proposals, but just listening to him speak, I have to say he's among the most likable candidates I've come across in my lifetime.

It's worth watching this short clip from a speech he gave yesterday here.

Surprised to see Yang going on the offensive against MSNBC. Normally this strategy is a loser, but he's playing with house money so why not throw caution to the wind I guess. NBC really has been just pure dog **** since Trump won his party's nomination.

Agree. Of the antiquated big 3, CBS (to my reading of web content at least) has kept the only decent newsroom.

Except that Andrew Yang was on NBC 3 days ago.

Yang in the latest RCP polling average is at 2.8% nationally and at 2.8% in Iowa. I understand every campaign wants to complain about unfair coverage, try being John Delaney, but his coverage does seem in line with his polling.

Isn't his polling beneath the average margin of error? Yang and Castro making it sound like there's a vast conspiracy against them. Nah, not exactly.

CBS news streaming is probably my go to -- they just run through the stories and if they need filler they'll play a 60 minutes segment or something interesting (usually). No flashing strobes and breaking news alerts graphics constantly popping up -- most importantly it's not 24/7 Trump.

Yang building that brand.... when will he release an MLM to all these chumps buying his economic arguments? That level of faith is needed to take his ideas seriously.

I'll put this here since it's related to UBI and inflation, or a lack of.

This was also covered on NPR morning ed this morning:

    https://www.givedirectly.org/how-do-cash-transfers-impact-neighbors/

We delivered $1,000 to each of 10,500 households across 328 villages in Siaya, Kenya, ultimately distributing as much as 15% of local GDP one year. In parallel, 5 economists from Berkeley, Princeton, and UCSD (including GiveDirectly co-founder Paul Niehaus) led numerous surveys of recipients, non-recipients, and local business owners to understand the broader, macroeconomic effects of large infusions of cash across a total of 653 study villages.

You can read the full paper here.

    Key takeaways

(2.6 fiscal multipliers means the economies grew by $2.6 per every $1.)

@txtony, that would have been interesting back in the 20th century, when data mattered. ;)

Plenty more data points here: https://api.gdeltproject.org/api/v2/campaign2020/campaign2020

This link is old now but it does illustrate the point from the very beginning of the debate season: https://www.axios.com/andrew-yang-2020-media-attention-acc2652a-e43b-45fb-8e88-42e606ab0be8.html

I didn't watch the last debate but came across this. I thought he made a few bad mistakes in the last debate. He looks much more like himself on the debate stage here, and it's night and day since the 1st debate.

I watched this debate from start to finish because of a family thing. I would usually add unfortunately, but I found it entertaining and enlightening for the most part. I especially loved Yang's response when asked what he would tell Putin if he were to win the election, and I like him for not pandering to one demographic or another at every opportunity.

When Yang spoke during the debate he came across as genuine and passionate, which is more than I can say for a good chunk of this crop of candidates, or the last Democratic nominee for president that I happened to campaign for.

Does he stand a chance in hell of being on the ticket? No. But we desperately need people like him in government.

The media serves a product just like any other provider. For the most part, they follow the show and the crowds...if you're scandal free. Trump capitalized on the last bit.

News orgs shrank because people ultimately stopped caring/watching stories that took more thought and effort.

In this day and age, politicians are less beholden to the news because back then more coverage meant more potential funding.

I like that Yang went 100% full-on calling out media bias (MSNBC) unlike another democratic candidate that I was rooting for in 2016.

That's why I can't take him seriously he seems to allways want to play the victim.

How about he use that same energy to say or do something in a debate even Tulsi has managed to make a mark.

It’s the only card you can play when you are polling so low....

I like Yang but I still wish he would run for senate or a large liberal city so he can put his ideas into practice.

The victim mentality is off putting. Run a better campaign... guess what if your main platform is Universal Basic Income during a time when everything is considered “socialism”... good luck.
