I think Grandal will easily outperform that contract and thus provide great value to the White Sox but the Astros have always gone cheap at that position for whatever reason and will probably focus whatever money they wish to spend this offseason on pitching.

I never thought we could or would pay a non-SP pitcher that kind of money this off-season. Use the money on SP or 2 and extend Springer would exceed my expectations for this off-season. The catcher situation will take care of itself. I would assume it’s gonna be either Chirinos or Maldonado to go with Stubbs.

Still hoping for one of Narvaez, Avila, or Castro paired with one of Chirinos, Maldonado, or James McCann.

Weren't the Astros rumored to be interested in catcher James McCann last trade deadline?

Sure.. but can't give up too much for McCann. He's a free agent after 2020.

I do not want Houston giving up much for McCann. I am fine with him as a backup or part of a platoon but he is unlikely to be worth much more than his salary.

MacT’s idea is interesting. Maybe they could do a Reddick for McCann deal with Houston eating $5M of Reddick’s salary? Or they do the same swap, Chicago takes on all of Reddicks salary, and Houston includes a 3rd tier prospect like Brett Conine.

    Astros Get:
    C James McCann
1B Gavin Sheets (2nd rd pick, blocked by Abreu and Vaughn. Liked him for some time, son of a big leaguer, AAA-ready guy with pop and good numbers in a pitchers' AA league last year. Can be Yuli's heir apparent)

    White Sox Get:
    RF Josh Reddick
    LHP Framber Valdez
    $2 million in cash considerations

    Does this do it?

Robbie Ray is available. Maybe Ray for Abreu and Straw? Fits both teams’ needs.

i'm concerned that this scandal we're embroiled in may affect our ability to recruit players here. anyone else?

Nope. As stated above, the only the potential lingering affect may be the impeding fine. If anything else, maybe the loss of picks may make us more aggressive on the market. I don’t think FAs will be dissuaded to come here.

No. Players know this stuff goes on all over. Astros are WS favorites next year, reputation for having a fun clubhouse, players are having fun, one of the best managers in the game, reputation for “fixing” pitchers, and do what it takes to win.

Signed to a deal contingent on releasing any type of cheating he observed on the Yankees while he was there. I like it. He certainly would have the motivation now.

Josh Reddick underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder AC joint yesterday, per the Astros. He’s expected to be fully recovered ahead of spring training.

Next Jomboy story. Astros possibly resort to cybernetics.
