I wish a leftist, also presenting there, would mention POTUS inviting people (Taliban), who have similar values to al-qaeda, and likely allowed bin laden to operate out of Afghanistan in the first place, to a presidential retreat.. Would be kind of fitting - the perfect representation of the extreme political discord with 9/11 as the back drop. 9/11 is such a critical event. Everyone probably remembers where they were when it happened. It caused lots of incursions on liberties and in-fighting among various groups. Opened the door to autocratic power-grabbing tendencies of various political factions to be overlooked because people wanted to win at all costs ignoring their own values out of fear of a real and palpable new threat. In 2019, with a huge target on her back, Omar is objectively dumb to have referred to 9/11 so non-nonchalantly. She is making things so easy for people like Trump to ostracize her and her message. No tact or political savvy. I hope she gets challenged in a primary election.
I live in Omar's district and agree she is not the most savy politician and says a lot of things that make me groan. That said she's a first time representative. She isn't a party leader and in my opinion too many people on the left and the right try to make her out to be one.
I agree it was dumb of her to say something like that but also it is an obsession on some on the Right to get worked up over things like this. One of my Trump supporting friends in Minnesota spent more time spamming social media yesterday about Omar than he did remembering 9/11. As far as her getting primaried I strongly doubt she'll have a major challenge. This is Keith Ellison's district and the most liberal district in Minnesota, so far her support is pretty strong here.
