Yes. Yes he is and he always will be. TMac was a lame duck. He tried to do everything himself and he was incapable. I mean I see your point that he had amazing gifts from being born an athlete, but there's more to being a successful athlete than trying to do everything. TMac should've been like a downhill skier, or golfer, tennis player, swimmer.. something that didn't require teammates. He bet on himself too often and never knew how to make others around him great. He had decent teammates before he got to Houston and had some in Houston too that he seemed to deflate with his amazing abilities to deflate talent around him. EGo doesn't deflate the talent around him. Sorry, but he just doesn't.
The Rockets would have beaten the Jazz in the first round during the McGrady/Yao era both times if Yao didn’t get torched by a stretch five in Mehmet Okur on defense, or he didn’t get shut down by fronting defenses.
Morey shot himself in the foot around the time when he should be seriously going for a title or two by going political.
EGO better than Tmac you can be serious. If Tmac had the wide open threes that EGO had he would have surpassed Kareem on the all time points list. Plus remember EGO has never made 1 all star team
I've seen DaDakota the Edgelord vs Pro threads before. If DD were GM, he'd be banned from the NBA by now for -- say -- posting some edgy tweet against China, or sumpin. Best to leave the Social Network face of the Rockets in the hands of Pros.
TMac's selfish play made us a two trick pony. We would've beat them if we let others on the team contribute to the 12 man team. We were a two man team because of TMac. EGo has been the 3rd option on this team since he got here. Why would you expect him to put up 25 ppg being 3rd option? Tmac was first option. TMac had a .460 eFG% while he was in Houston. He was just a chucker. EGo would've put up much better numbers with that level of usage. EGo playing 37 minutes per game and throwing up 22 shots a game like Tracy McFake is netting 25 ppg or more. He'd certainly be more efficient.
There’s a reason Eric Gordon has never been a number one option for any team he has ever played on. He does not have the talent or skill set to handle that role. If you replace Tracy McGrady with Eric Gordon on those Rockets’ teams, they don’t even make the playoffs. Also, Eric Gordon as a Rocket has been the beneficiary of receiving mostly wide-open looks due to playing in a Mike D’Antoni’ offense and next to hall-of-fame playmakers in James Harden and Chris Paul. He better be a more efficient shooter than a guy that spent his prime facing every opponent’s best defenders and mostly taking contested shots. Not to mention, Eric Gordon gets most of his minutes against the other team’s bench. Also, comparing a Jeff Van Gundy’ offense to a Mike D’Antoni’ offense is like comparing your kid’s first-grade painting to a work done by Picasso.
So Morey “hasn't had a PRODUCTIVE trade in years” except for the blockbuster trade he made this summer? Lol. Ok.
In hindsight, knowing how things turned out, it would have been fun to see Cat and Francis play with Yao a few more years. I understood the TMac trade at the time, of course, but it did feel like we pulled the plug on a promising young group a little too early.
We aren’t counting trades and picks Joe can make. We are only counting trades and picks Joe could never make....then we say Joe is better. Get with the program
Morey use to say this alot and it frustrated me. Yao and T-Mac were tall for their positions BUT what about the players around them....THAT IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT MORE SO! Chuck Hayes, Luther Head, Aaron Brooks, etc. My point is more about what are you putting around your star athletes? Where is the help? If you look at this years team, Harden and Westbrook do not have any help. I'm not saying you need a 3rd and 4th star, ala Golden State, just get players who have length, that can help on the boards and that are not a negative on the offensive end.
