It is but home field isn't as important in baseball as basketball and football.

Not gonna vote because I didn't see the Rockets/Mavs game. On May 6, 2005, I was mired in my own worst choke job nearly failing out of college. (I ultimately didn't, but only because of some well-placed medical withdrawals.)

I would say a World Series where no home team won maybe shouldn't be called a "choke job" but it seems deserving of some sort of sports Razzie for both teams. To be shared with the awful Super Bowl this year.

As far as the Astros, I guess it depends on your perspective. If you didn't watch the team that much and went mainly by the numbers and reputation, then, yeah, call it a choke job. I think it's beyond "oh, that's just how baseball is."

If you watched pretty intently over the season, I think the signs were there. Kind of like how we all convince ourselves each year that the Rockets can get past the WCF, but I think we all know deep down that once they get there, all the seams that were barely holding together up to that point are going to start bursting left and right. The Astros were riding their pitching to victory while this horrendous RISP bubble was just building and building. Like how the Rockets lean on Harden to do literally everything when they can't hit a three to save their lives...and it actually sometimes works in the regular season.

We all thought maybe the Astros would sneak on in by a nose, but you can't just score 2 runs a game and expect to win the World Series. Yeah, it all fell apart spectacularly in Game 7 with pitching and managerial decisions standing out, but the bats showed the same signs that they felt 2-0 would be enough to come away with a W just as they did during the whole playoffs and much of the last two seasons.

I don't ever want to hear the words "historic offense" ever again. Regarding the Astros or the Rockets.

Oh, I just noticed that the poll question is different than the thread topic. Well, then I did vote for the Stros/Nats in terms of heart devastation. I think a lot of the numbness and cynicism you can read about in my previous post shielded me being blindsided, but yeah, it hurt. Seeing Greinke throw (and field) an absolute gem of a game only to have it immediately and completely eradicated was the worst dagger. He deserved so much better.

that mavericks game was over in the first quarter.
JVG's crap offense and over use of Yao and Tmac was exploited. I know all the other excuses, but we were pretenders.
Contenders don't lose first round series.

The Astros lost in the World Series in game 7. They were legit. Sucks they lost dramatically but at least they weren't exposed as pretenders.

It was more a few choke games and a label unfairly given by the paper because of the Oilers.

Maxwell birthed Clutch City that game 3.

That Rockets team with Tmac got exposed .

    That's not choking.

That's being exposed. We finally had to get rid of Van Gundy for Rick.

Think about how bad that offense was that JVG ran. It was so inefficient. No ball movement.

That team never past the first round
    Par for the course

Astros made it to the World Series
    Stakes much higher
They were legitimately close to winning a title

that rockets team was never close

Didn’t we also lose game 7 to Utah at home?

That was way worse than the Mavericks loss

Exactly when you get Jeff Van Hundy turning us into the Knicks

I like him as a commentator and he was a good dude but his offenses were Stone Age

Kids today wouldn’t cry if they saw what we did

Astros were the largest world series favorite to lose in 28 years. They were the only team in professional sports to lose all 4 games at home in a 7 game series.

Nobody will remember that Rockets team that lost to the Mavs. Astros choked beyond thinking.
