On the plus side, we no longer have to worry about losing to OU twice this season.

Herman is 22-13 in three seasons so far at UT.

At some point momentum will build to replace him but he isn’t really that far off of where UT is as a program.

If he gets enough time he may get UT on equal footing as OU because he has some ability, but it is a tough spot.

Well, great, our punter broke his clavicle on that fake.

    Our team is so wounded.

does he really need a clavicle to kick the ball?

Still believe Herman can be the right guy but hard watching OU and tOSU transition the way they have with guys like Riley and Day.

Gotta find a way to salvage the season and the recruiting class. 2 losses in 3 weeks. 3 decommitments and another 2 in the portal.

OU and tOSU were successful programs when Riley and Day took over. Texas was recovering from a brutal stretch where Charlie Strong left the cupboard bare. Pretty big difference.

There's no depth on defense, especially JR/SR depth due to Strong's work, and when you have a few injuries, you're relying on freshmen and sophomores. Not a recipe for success.

Nah blaming the previous regime is the easy way out. We used it for Strong but it just turned out he wasn’t a very good coach. Depth is an issue, mainly due to injury, but the cupboard wasn’t left bare by any means.

Let’s see what that looks like

It's a mixture of both, though I lean toward texxx's argument here. The cupboard was left bare. Strong's "great" recruiting classes were full of attrition and busts. That said, Herman and the defensive staff are responsible for bad gameplans, imbecilic play calls, and the lack of fundamentals in areas like tackling.

? Look at the JRs and SRs on the depth chart. Who are the impact players?

and yes, the 3rd and long for the opponents have a ridiculously high conversion rate, especially at key points in the game. They should be hereby called "3rd and Orlando" plays.

tOSU and OU aren't fair comparisons as those were top programs when the assistants took over, and the transition was largely in-house so there wasn't much turnover. However, Herman did turn around a UH team that didn't have great recruiting and made them a hot team. I don't think he's achieved that at UT yet. He's certainly done more than Strong did at least.

The 2018 defense was made up almost all upperclassman, pretty good ones too. Yet we were near dead last in defense last season. Obviously we’re not fairing any better.

Not saying talent and depth isn’t an issue. That is evident going against the likes of LSU and OU. But as @Hustle Town posted, the defensive game plans, play calling and lack of fundamentals are on the staff. That has been the bigger issue IMO.

I guess you don't watch the games if you haven't noticed the opponents' conversion rates on 3rd and longs.

Think it’s one thing to miss in the open field every now and then. But it’s an completely different issue when guys are running around 3-5 DBs untouched.

At what point do you begin to look at the program as a whole and not just the coach?
