I disagree, I think the media did start this it was a non story and the victim did not see fit to run a story on it.

Not saying it was wrong to run a story but the media and Taubman started this.

Two things, first being that’s a false equivalency. A predator taking advantage of kids =\= Husband hitting adult wife
While both are extremely bad, the first seems to be a bit more extreme.

Secondly, he was not a coach. He was a team doctor.

Society is crazy, an Angels employee killed a star Angels player by being his opioid drug dealer, and nobody bats an eye.

I think a lot of that is about respecting the dead pitcher's legacy. If you make that big story you're just turning him into a pill head who threw his life away.

That and the Angel's legal team has probably worked overtime trying to kill the story for liability reasons.

Rank these in decreasing order of reprehensibility:

    Pedo on kids
    Husband on adult wife
    adult wife on kids
Pedo & kids vs. husband and adult wife

No it was a defense by saying that "oh, a man beating his wife to a pulp isn't really that bad, it's not like he murdered her"

Do you know what happened? Did he beat her to a pulp? Maybe they are both in an abusive relationship where she hits him as well. Nothing really came out about it. While still bad not at that level of bad.

Would you hire a known child predator to do your taxes? What if he then used the money he earned from you to go to asian on a child sex tour?

Doesn't the child predator have a right to eat and earn a living? Just because he is destroying children's lives doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a "second chance"

By the same token, murderers deserve a second chance as well. Maybe you keep them away from people and make them work in isolation so they don't kill anyone, but why not give them a second chance?

This has nothing to do with 2nd chances, and everything to do with winning ball games.

Enough came out that MLB suspended him for 75 games.

    No.

I totally get it. You're absolutely right; instead society should feed him for free and pay his lodging for free the rest of his life. Yeah; that's better. If the POS isn't in jail, he should work.

    See above.

Yeah thanks for that. But the question wasn't about the Astros' motives for acquiring Osuna (of course it was about winning; who wants to their team to say, "Let's bring in this loser that will cost us games, but hey he gets a second chance!"??). Nor was the question about the merit of the social construct of a "second chance".

The question was: if Osuna the DV offender can't throw baseballs for a living, then what are acceptable jobs for him? If I hire him to work graveyard shift at my McDonald's, am I now endorsing DV? Why is it the Astros aren't allowed to employ a former DV offender but McDonald's is? Where does the line get drawn?

There's a big difference between working at McDonalds and playing sports. I know it can be hard to understand that they are different, since both require so much skill to do, and both are beloved by millions.

Athletes are role models whether they like it or not. Individuals reflect the team's brand. And when your star closer is a wife beater, it's a problem. You want to be a sports star? Then don't beat your wife - it's really not that hard of a thing to do.
