No. That's a misreading of what happened last night. The loss wasn't about one team having a post player and one not having one. It was about the Rockets refusing to address an obvious mismatch while also trying to shoot themselves out of a slump on the other end (instead of going back to the ball movement that worked in the first half). I'm not going to say no if a Brook Lopez type falls into our lap at some point, but those guys are pretty rare in the league right now.
Well the rockets and analytics are not synonymous. I agree with you that the rockets probably don't want a post scorer, though I don't think that's the same as saying that analytics doesn't like post scorers. Maybe the rockets front office identified that a lot of those players are overpriced, or maybe you can get a bigger offensive boost for less money in a player with a different skillset. But I'm just speculating here. Analytics doesn't dislike post players, it dislikes inefficient scorers. It is possible to be efficient on post ups, there are maybe a dozen players in the NBA who can do it, but most of the guys that do it aren't very good at it. I'm sure if todays rockets had Shaq, or Hakeem, or even Embiid/Jokic/Kat, they would be encouraged to post up.
I wish we had Ibaka right now. He would play well with Harden and Westbrook and is a defensive anchor. I'm praying that the Raptors suck this year so we can trade for him (it doesn't look like it will happen though).
They played totally different era with rules that favored post scoring. Things have changed. That said, Dream’s game would translate quite well to the modern NBA. He had a decent handle on the ball and solid range. On top all that he would be by far the best defensive player.
D'Antoni loathes just dumping the ball into the block and letting guys go to work, anyway. He has called the straight post-up possession the least efficient play in basketball.
Rockets need a low post defensive presence. Tucker 6 ft. 4 in. Playing small ball at end of game is why they lost. Tilman is still on tv every day. Tucker can not play center if the other teams in 7 ft. Keep this up and Tilman will start firing people. Tilman hire Jeff Van Gundy.
giannis didn't even play the last minute of the 4th quarter. Bucks are east conference favorites right now, obviously!
You don't necessarily need a big man with a postgame. Players like Evan Turner and Wesley Matthews can back down their man and score. Could Eric Gordon be effective in the post? I Ubered Harden last season and that guy is huge. Why not have Harden post up smaller guards? He should add post moves to his game.
it looks like Westbrook is going to be our post threat. a low post thread is nice to have, but not necessary....we need defensive forwards more than that.
