Imagine how much more painful this would be had we lost in 2017

I'd rather Cole pitch twice more than rely on the bullpen. Like those odds better. That gives us 5 Cy Young starts to finish the season and if that ain't enough, I can tip my cap, but it should be enough.

It's put up or shut up time for the Astros.

The odds are against them, but the Astros can still win this series.

Concerning the 1965 World Series, that is a good comparison. However keep in mind that the Dodgers trotted out Koufax in games 2,5 and 7 that series with Koufax. I don't think we can do that with Cole.

    We have

    Game 3......4.....5.... rest day....6....7

    Greinke
    Peacock
    Cole
    Verlander
    Greinke

Ultimately the Astros World Series hopes are going to obviously depend on the offense growing a pair of balls........ but also in large part on Greinke pitching well and going deep into games.

You still have these three for four of the last 5 games but only a TINY margin of error to work with.

I think that's foolish. He's never pitched on short rest in his entire career. Here's how it should play out if the Astros win Game 3(if they lose tomorrow night, stick a fork in them):

    Game 4 - Bullpen game
    Game 5 - Cole starts
    Game 6 - Verlander starts
Game 7 - Greinke starts with Cole available on 2 days rest out of the bullpen

That's actually not that daunting of a task. You're down 2-1 going into a Game 4 where the Astros can play loose because everyone will favor the Nats in that one. Then Game 5 you've got Cole who will pitch much better than he did in Game 1(although in fairness, Scherzer could as well). If the Astros get it back to MMP, Verlander vs Strasberg in Game 6 which is a tossup. And then in a Game 7, anything can happen.

Yep. They can easily tie this up.

We were up 2-0 on the Rays and they came back and won the next two. Yes, they just lost two home games, but I honestly don't home/away matters much right now for the Astros. The offense has been slumping ALL postseason thus far, if they turn it around they could easily take the next 3 away games. There's no arguing that the Astros are the deeper/more talented team, just like they were last year against Boston(No surprise they didn't make the playoffs). The Nats are hot right now, but the Astros are talented enough to overcome it.

We are making mental mistakes, they aren't. They are hitting with RISP, many times with two outs, we are not. Their pitchers limit the damage when they are in trouble, ours do not. This is a recipe for an early exit. BUT....

    But I still believe,
    I still believe,
    Through the pain,
    And through the grief,
    Through the lies,
    Through the storms,
    Through the cries,
    And through the wars,
    Oh, I STILL BELIEVE!!!!

    Nope.

No one has great starts every night.... even Cole and Verlander.

However we need them rested and at 100%.

If were to be swept I'd be beyond upset. I still think and expect a competitive series. I wanted 7 games for the sweat

DC has inflicted upon the rest of us far more ills than any bad luck sports-wise it may have received. They deserve nothing.

Besides, they just had the Capitals win.

Agree. We got the bad starts out the way. Let's tap the good ones coming up. Heros bounce back. Don't ever underestimate the heart of the champion.

If it even goes 6, the Astros win the series.

If we can get to game 3, we will win this series, but that does require showing up.

I've been thinking that. I'm not happy with the losses at all...but I do take solace in the fact I've seen my Astros win a World Series before I was dead.

    A sweep is arguably WOAT.

Why? Because NC and Buffalo could somewhat be justified due to the one-game aspect.

    Five games is still equal.

    Six games is borderline.

Stros are getting beatdown with home field. Largest favorites in over a decade.

    Embarrassing outcome if we lose.

It's supposed to be rainy this weekend in DC. Pray for it?

Hypothetically, if Saturday is rained out, isn't this a possibility?

    Game 4 - Cole
    Game 5 - Verlander
Game 6 - Bullpen (at home!!!)
    Game 7 - Greinke?

Remember when the Rockets went to Dallas and won the first 2 games, then Dallas just rolled over?

Just win game 3 by all means.
    The Nationals are damn good.

I like how you said they haven’t gotten any opposite field hits and then bring up Springer who he the should’ve been triple to right center haha
